Wasatch Mountain Club
The Wasatch Mountain Club is a recreational outdoor club for adults based in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is a non-profit organization and has no restrictions on who may join. Some of its missions are: * To promote the physical and spiritual well being through outdoor activities; * to unite the energy, knowledge, and interests of students, explorers and lovers of the Utah wilderness; * to encourage the preservation of nature. History The club was officially founded on the 13 May 1920 with the purpose of providing an education and activity group for those who enjoyed hiking, ski touring, river running and mountain climbing. However, it was informally organized earlier, sometime in August 1913. There were seven original participants who were met in the mountains, or on various trails near Salt Lake City. Wasatch Range
The Wasatch Range ( ) or Wasatch Mountains is a mountain range in the western United States that runs about from the Utah-Idaho border south to central Utah. Uinta Mountains
The Uinta Mountains ( ) are an east-west trending chain of mountains in northeastern Utah extending slightly into southern Wyoming in the United States. As a subrange of the Rocky Mountains, they are unusual for being the highest range in the contiguous United States running east to west, and lie approximately east of Salt Lake City. Lone Peak Wilderness
The Lone Peak Wilderness is a wilderness area located within the Uinta and the Wasatch-Cache National Forest in the U.S. state of Utah. The Lone Peak Wilderness was established in 1978 as part of the Endangered American Wilderness Act and was the only designated wilderness area in Utah until the enactment of the Utah Wilderness Act of 1984. Wasatch Mountain Club Lodge
The Wasatch Mountain Club Lodge, near Salt Lake City, Utah, is a log cabin built in 1929–30. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It is located on U.S. Forest Service land at the head of Big Cottonwood Canyon, on what is now Mary Lake Lane, in Brighton, Utah, about southeast of Salt Lake City. It overlooks the Brighton Bowl, what is now the Brighton Ski Resort area; the ski resort developed starting from one rope tow established in 1936. Brighton, Utah
Brighton is a town in eastern Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Salt Lake City, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Description Brighton is located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon and covers an area of . While the exact number of residents is unknown, as of 2018, the population was estimated to be between 180 and 260. Both the Brighton Ski Resort and the Solitude Mountain Resort are located in Brighton. History The area was first settled in 1871 but remained unincorporated.
