Wasatch Mountain Club Lodge
The Wasatch Mountain Club Lodge, near Salt Lake City, Utah, is a log cabin built in 1929–30. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It is located on U.S. Forest Service land at the head of Big Cottonwood Canyon, on what is now Mary Lake Lane, in Brighton, Utah, about southeast of Salt Lake City. It is near the trailhead to Mary Lake. With Google maps It is a two-story rustic log cabin lodge. It overlooks the Brighton Bowl, what is now the Brighton Ski Resort area; the ski resort developed starting from one rope tow established in 1936. The historic designation recognizes the building as one of few structures surviving from the earliest years of skiing in Utah. The lodge was used for club events and public rentals. Big Cottonwood Canyon
Big Cottonwood Canyon is a canyon in the Wasatch Range southeast of Salt Lake City in the U.S. state of Utah. The -long canyon provides hiking, biking, picnicking, rock-climbing, camping, and fishing in the summer. Its two ski resorts, Brighton and Solitude, are popular among skiers and snowboarders. The canyon is accessed by The Big Cottonwood Canyon Scenic Byway (SR-190), which runs its length to Guardsman Pass at the top of the canyon, allowing travel to Park City in the summer months. Guardsman Pass is closed during the winter months and is a popular snowshoe hiking destination for many Utahns. Hiking to the canyon's mountain lakes is popular, with many trails leading to lakes such as Mary, Martha, and Katherine. Brighton is a town in eastern Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Salt Lake City, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Description Brighton is located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon and covers an area of . While the exact number of residents is unknown, as of 2018, the population was estimated to be between 180 and 260. Both the Brighton Ski Resort and the Solitude Mountain Resort are located in Brighton. History The area was first settled in 1871 but remained unincorporated. On November 6, 2018, residents of the area voted for incorporation, which took effect January 1, 2020. The community had post offices from 1889 to 1905 and from 1946 to 1953. Brighton Ski Resort
Brighton Ski Resort is a ski area located in Big Cottonwood Canyon in Brighton, Utah, United States, about from downtown Salt Lake City. It is owned and operated by Boyne Resorts. Description Brighton Ski Resort was the first ski resort in Utah, and one of the first in the United States. Brighton was started in 1936 when members of the Alpine Ski Club built a rope tow from wire and an old elevator motor. The resort was named for Thomas W. Brighton, who is credited with constructing the first buildings in the area. In 1943, Zane Doyle and Willard Jensen purchased the T-bar from K Smith. In 1954 when there was talk of expansion, Willard insisted that going out on a limb to build a double chair lift instead of another T-bar was worth the risk.
