WRSL
WRSL (1600 AM) was a radio station licensed to Corbin, Kentucky, United States broadcasting a Southern gospel format. The station was owned by Lincoln-Garrard Broadcasting Co., Inc., and broadcast from 1961 to 2017. The station moved to Corbin in 2004 after 43 years of broadcasting from Stanford, Kentucky. The station's license was surrendered on December 15, 2017, and cancelled by the Federal Communications Commission on February 26, 2018. History WRSL went on air November 1, 1961, on 1520 kHz. The station was located halfway between Stanford and Lancaster on the farm of W. G. Morgan, one of the station's four owners, and broadcast with 500 watts during the day. The first initials of each of the four owners—W. G. Morgan, Ray Doss, S. C. Bybee, and Lanier Burchett—were reflected in the station's call letters. WXKY (96.3 FM) is a radio station licensed to Stanford, Kentucky, which serves as an affiliate of the national K-LOVE Contemporary Christian radio network owned by the Educational Media Foundation. The station's transmitter is located in the far northeast corner of Casey County, west of Stanford and near Hustonville on Sand Knob Road. Prior to being leased out, and later sold, to EMF, WXKY was a Stanford-based country music station as WRSL-FM, an adjunct to WRSL (1520 AM). WPBK (102.9 FM) is a local radio station serving Lincoln County, Kentucky. The city of license is Crab Orchard, Kentucky, and offices and studios are located in the Arch "Buzz" Walker building in downtown Stanford, Kentucky. The transmitter is centrally located in the Highland community of Lincoln County. WPBK is licensed to Radioactive, LLC, but was brought to air and is operated by Lincoln-Garrard Broadcasting Company Inc. under a local marketing agreement with a purchase option. The option was exercised in 2009 and an application for transfer of license to Lincoln-Garrard Broadcasting was granted by the FCC on February 25, 2010. Final closing of the sale is expected to occur later in 2010. WPBK's final amended construction permit was granted November 27, 2007. Corbin, Kentucky
Corbin is a home rule-class city in Whitley, Knox and Laurel counties in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 7,304. Corbin is on Interstate 75, about halfway between Knoxville, Tennessee, and Lexington. History The first settlement in the Corbin area was known as Lynn Camp Station. The first post office was called Cummins, for community founder Nelson Cummins. It was discovered in 1885 that both Cummins and Lynn Camp were already in use as names for Kentucky post offices, and postmaster James Eaton was asked to select another name. He chose Corbin for the Rev. James Corbin Floyd, a local minister. The town was incorporated under that name in 1905. Corbin has a troubled racial past, including a race riot in late October 1919 in which a white mob forced nearly all the town's 200 black residents onto a freight train out of town and a sundown town policy until the late 20th century. WKFC
WKFC (101.9 FM) is an adult contemporary– formatted radio station licensed to North Corbin, Kentucky, United States, and serving the Corbin and London area. The station is owned by Radioactive, LLC. History The station went on the air as WPNS on September 29, 2006. On March 5, 2008, the station changed its call sign to the current WKFC. The station has been attempted to be sold twice in its existence. In 2009, its owner Radioactive filed to sell the station to Lincoln-Garrard Broadcasting under a 2007 option. The deal was never finalized; however, Lincoln-Garrard continues to operate WKFC under a time brokerage agreement. In 2019, Radioactive again moved to sell WKFC, this time to Corbin–based Forcht Broadcasting, owner of three stations in the area. A major change would come to WKFC in September of 2020.
