WXKY (96.3 FM) is a radio station licensed to Stanford, Kentucky, which serves as an affiliate of the national K-LOVE Contemporary Christian radio network owned by the Educational Media Foundation. The station's transmitter is located in the far northeast corner of Casey County, west of Stanford and near Hustonville on Sand Knob Road. Prior to being leased out, and later sold, to EMF, WXKY was a Stanford-based country music station as WRSL-FM, an adjunct to WRSL (1520 AM). History WRSL-FM When WRSL-FM began operating on May 26, 1967, it was the first FM radio station in service between Lexington and Somerset. The establishment of the FM outlet allowed WRSL, a daytime-only radio station, to begin covering high school sporting events that took place after sunset. WRSL
WRSL (1600 AM) was a radio station licensed to Corbin, Kentucky, United States broadcasting a Southern gospel format. The station was owned by Lincoln-Garrard Broadcasting Co., Inc., and broadcast from 1961 to 2017. The station moved to Corbin in 2004 after 43 years of broadcasting from Stanford, Kentucky. The station's license was surrendered on December 15, 2017, and cancelled by the Federal Communications Commission on February 26, 2018. History WRSL went on air November 1, 1961, on 1520 kHz. The station was located halfway between Stanford and Lancaster on the farm of W. G. Morgan, one of the station's four owners, and broadcast with 500 watts during the day. Stanford is a home rule-class city in Lincoln County, Kentucky, United States. It is one of the oldest settlements in Kentucky, having been founded in 1775. Its population was 3,487 at the 2010 census and an estimated 3,686 in 2018. It is the county seat of Lincoln County. Stanford is part of the Danville Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Stanford was founded in 1775 by Benjamin Logan as "St. Asaph"; the early settlement was also known simply as "Logan's Fort". The site of the fort is about one mile west of the courthouse at the center of town. Air1 is an American Christian radio network. Owned by the Educational Media Foundation (EMF), it primarily broadcasts contemporary worship music, and is a sister to the EMF's K-Love network. Somerset is a home rule-class city in Pulaski County, Kentucky, United States. The city population was 11,924 according to the 2020 census. It is the seat of Pulaski County. History Somerset was first settled in 1798 by Thomas Hansford and received its name from Somerset County, New Jersey, where some of the early settlers had formerly lived. Somerset became the Pulaski County seat in 1802, and was incorporated as a city in 1887. A Civil War battle was fought in January 1862, at Mill Springs (now "Nancy") about west of Somerset, and a museum is at the site. A smaller battle was fought nearby at Dutton's Hill in 1863. Hustonville, Kentucky
Hustonville is a home rule-class city in Lincoln County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 405 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Danville Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The community was originally known as The Crossroads from its location on trails connecting the Kentucky and Green rivers and the Falls of the Ohio with Logan's Fort (present-day Stanford). It was then known as Farmington and, after the 1818 erection of a post office, Hanging Fork after a local stream named for two bandits who were hanged by Virginia officers rather than escorted back for trial. For three months in 1826, it was known as New Store, but the name then returned to Hanging Fork. When the town was established on February 29, 1836, it was renamed Hustonville after two local landowners; the post office adopted the name the next year.
