WPKR (99.5 FM, "99.5 PKR") is a country music radio station licensed to Omro, Wisconsin, that serves the Oshkosh, Appleton and Fond du Lac areas. It started as a simulcast of Green Bay-based country music station WPCK. Since then it has split off and is its own entity. The station is owned by Cumulus Media. WPCK
WPCK (104.9 FM) is a radio station licensed to Denmark, Wisconsin and serving Green Bay. The station is owned and operated by Educational Media Foundation. WPCK's transmitter is located off Finger Road in Montpelier. History The station was previously known in the 1970s and 1980s as Top 40 station WKAU-FM (licensed to Kaukauna), but became oldies-formatted WKFX by 1990. In an eleven–station channel swap, including moving Sheboygan's 97.7 frequency to Lomira, the frequency landed east of Green Bay. In 1997, an ownership change saw the station become WPCK, simulcasting its Oshkosh sister station WPKR ("Packer Country", never licensed or sanctioned by the NFL team). WVBO (103.9 FM) is a classic hits formatted radio station licensed to Winneconne, Wisconsin, that serves the Appleton- Oshkosh area. The station is owned by Cumulus Media. History This station began broadcasting in the fall of 1966 as WOSH-FM from studios at 2333 Bowen Street, Oshkosh. Its first format included a range from musical comedy, show tunes, Broadway music, and "semi-classical" music. Early in the 1970s, WOSH-FM changed its call letters to WYTL, and adopted a modern country format. This was maintained until August 1, 1975, at which time 103.9 FM regained the WOSH callsign and changed format to top 40/contemporary hits. It uses the "America's Best Music" radio format supplied by co-owned Westwood One, that combines soft oldies with a few adult standards and middle of the road songs each hour. WOSH (1490 AM) is a radio station serving the Oshkosh, Wisconsin area with a News/Talk format including the ABC News Radio network. This station is under ownership of Cumulus Media. The station began broadcasting on December 31, 1941. During the late 1960s until 1975, WOSH was the leading Top 40 radio station in the Appleton-Oshkosh market, with Jonathon Brandmeier as the station's star disc jockey. On August 1, 1975, AM 1490's callsign was changed from WOSH to WYTL, and its format changed from top 40 to modern country. This change was advertised as a "frequency swap" to listeners, where WYTL-FM "moved" along with its country format to AM 1490, and WOSH-AM "moved" to FM 103.9 with its top 40 format. WFDL (1170 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an oldies format. Licensed to Waupun, Wisconsin, United States, the station is owned by Radio Plus, Inc. and features programming from CBS News Radio and The True Oldies Channel. History Originally 1170 was known as WLKE and played top-40 rock from 1966 to 1971. From 1971 to 1983, it broadcast country music and was known as "Lucky 1170". After an ownership change it briefly became WGZS, which featured a Christian format. The station was reassigned the call letters WLKE on January 9, 1984 and simulcast a country music format with WLKE-FM (99.3 FM). The station shares a transmitter site with WNAM located along I-41. History The station signed on January 30, 1967 as WMKC, operating on 96.7 FM under the ownership of Kimball Broadcasting. In 1968, the station became an affiliate of the ABC FM network. By 1971, WMKC had a middle of the road format, and devoted 20 hours a week to jazz music. Omro is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,517 at the 2010 census. The city is located along the Fox River, approximately 10 miles west of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
