WFDL (AM)
WFDL (1170 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an oldies format. Licensed to Waupun, Wisconsin, United States, the station is owned by Radio Plus, Inc. and features programming from CBS News Radio and The True Oldies Channel. History Originally 1170 was known as WLKE and played top-40 rock from 1966 to 1971. From 1971 to 1983, it broadcast country music and was known as "Lucky 1170". After an ownership change it briefly became WGZS, which featured a Christian format. The station was reassigned the call letters WLKE on January 9, 1984 and simulcast a country music format with WLKE-FM (99.3 FM). In 1985, the station flipped the format to a rock oldies format using the Satellite Music Network Pure Gold music format and was call "The Lake". Lomira, Wisconsin
Lomira is a village in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,430 at the 2010 census. The village is located within the Town of Lomira, at the crossroads of State Highways 49, 67 and 175, and Interstate 41. History The early history of the Village of Lomira is closely interwoven with the Town of Lomira. Prior to the arrival of white settlers, the son of Chief Black Hawk supposedly camped in the vicinity while blazing a trail from Milwaukee to Green Bay. There is no record of a settlement at Lomira prior to 1849. It was originally called Springfield, but in 1849, the name was changed to Lomira. Local lore says the village is a namesake of Elmira Schoonover, daughter of Sam Schoonover, an early settler. The first Post Office was established on May 11, 1849. A petition for incorporation of the village of Lomira was made to the circuit court of Dodge County on March 24, 1899. WPKR (99.5 FM, "99.5 PKR") is a country music radio station licensed to Omro, Wisconsin, that serves the Oshkosh, Appleton and Fond du Lac areas. Cumulus Media Networks was an American radio network owned and operated by Cumulus Media. From 2011 until its merger with Westwood One, it controlled many of the radio assets formerly belonging to the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), which was broken up in 2007; Cumulus owned the portion of the network that was purchased by Citadel Broadcasting that year. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. In order to save time, two-letter identifiers were adopted for this purpose. Satellite Music Network was the first satellite delivered network to provide complete live 24-hour-a-day music programming to local stations, under several different formats.
