WFNC-FM
WFVL is a K-Love-affiliated Contemporary Christian radio station in the Fayetteville, North Carolina, United States, market which broadcasts on 102.3 FM. History Prior to March 9, 1998, this station was a Country station in Lumberton, North Carolina with the call letters WJSK. Al Kahn, who bought WAGR in January 1957, signed WJSK on the air in 1964 and took the station's letters from the names of his sons Jeff and Steve Kahn. After Messa Corp. bought the stations from Southeastern Broadcasting Corp. in July 1992, WJSK and WAGR ended their tradition of airing only Lumberton high school football and began carrying games involving other Robeson County teams. In 1993, Arthur DeBerry and Associates of Durham bought WAGR and WJSK. Cape Fear Broadcasting bought the station in 1998 and changed the call sign to WFNC-FM. WAGR (1340 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Gospel music format to the Lumberton, North Carolina, United States, area. The station is currently owned by WAGR Broadcasting, Inc. Lumberton is a city in Robeson County, North Carolina, United States. As of 2020, its population was 19,025. It is the seat of Robeson County's government. Located in southern North Carolina's Inner Banks region, Lumberton is located on the Lumber River. It was founded in 1787 by John Willis, an officer in the American Revolution. Urban adult contemporary, often abbreviated as urban AC or UAC, (also known as adult R&B,) is the name for a format of radio music, similar to an urban contemporary format. WFNC (640 kHz) is an AM radio station in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The station has a conservative talk format and is under ownership of Cumulus Media. Its studios and transmitter are co-located in Fayetteville. History Victor Dawson managed Fayetteville's first radio station for his father John Gilbert Dawson. In 1940, WFNC signed on with 250 watts at 1420 AM. On March 29, 1941, the frequency changed to 1450 AM. WFNC was a Mutual Broadcasting System affiliate. Later WFNC became a CBS Radio News affiliate and continues with CBS to the present time.
