WCOO
WCOO (105.5 FM) is a radio station that broadcasts an adult album alternative format. It is licensed to Kiawah Island, South Carolina, United States, and serves the Charleston area. The station is currently owned by Lynn Martin. Its studios are located in Charleston, west of downtown (west of the Ashley River), and the transmitter site is in Mount Pleasant. History Originally, this station was WWMC, licensed to Moncks Corner, South Carolina and broadcasting at 3,000 watts. In the mid-1990s, WNST "New Star" played hot adult contemporary music under the name "Star 105". In December 1998, WCOO switched from adult contemporary to rhythmic oldies, becoming "Cool 105.3". Soon, WCOO made big ratings gains at the expense of WXLY. WXLY recovered but WCOO continued to improve. In January 2004, WCOO changed to its current format. WYBB (98.1 FM "98 Rock") is a commercial radio station licensed to Folly Beach, South Carolina and serving the Charleston metropolitan area and the South Carolina Lowcountry. It broadcasts a mainstream rock radio format and is owned by L. M. Communications of South Carolina, Inc. The radio studios and offices are on Windermere Boulevard in Charleston west of the Ashley River. On weekday mornings, WYBB carries the syndicated ''Bubba The Love Sponge'' show from Florida. WYBB has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 23,000 watts. The transmitter site is on Magrath Darby Boulevard in Mount Pleasant, east of the Cooper River. WXLY (102.5 FM) is a commercial radio station licensed to North Charleston, South Carolina, and serving the Charleston metropolitan area and South Carolina Lowcountry. Owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., the station airs an adult contemporary radio format using the brand name Y102.5 and the slogan "Better Music For A Better Workday." Moncks Corner is a town in and the county seat of Berkeley County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 7,885 at the 2010 census.
