WBSS (1490 AM broadcasting, AM), is a 400-watt radio station operating with a Sports radio, sports betting talk format, licensed to Pleasantville, New Jersey. This station is under ownership of Longport Media and it serves three counties in New Jersey: Ocean County, New Jersey, Ocean, Atlantic County, New Jersey, Atlantic and Cape May County, New Jersey, Cape May. Along the Garden State Parkway the station can be heard clearly from Exit 74 to Exit 10. History The first station to broadcast on the 1490 frequency at the South Jersey shore was WBAB in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Atlantic City, which operated as a CBS affiliate in the 1940s. WBAB went off the air and by 1955 had been replaced by WLDB (named for its owners, Leroy and Dorothy Bremmer). By the early 1970s WLDB was an NBC Radio Network, NBC affiliate playing mostly country music. In late 1974 WLDB was sold to a group of local African-American businessmen. Pleasantville is a city in Atlantic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 U.S. census, the city's population was 20,629, which was an increase of 380 from the 2010 census count of 20,249, which reflected an increase of 1,237 (+6.5%) from the 19,012 counted in the 2000 census. WBON (98.5 FM, "La Nueva Fiesta") is a Spanish-language tropical music formatted radio station, licensed to Westhampton, New York and serving eastern Long Island. The station is owned by JVC Media LLC with studios located in Ronkonkoma, New York and transmitter located in Manorville, New York. History 98.5 FM went on the air September 15, 1993 as WMRW, simulcasting the modern rock of WDRE (92.7 FM). This would continue throughout the 1990s, with the call sign of 98.5 changing to WLIR-FM, WLRI, and finally WDRE.
