Vrmac
Vrmac ( sr-cyrl, Врмац) is a mountain in south-western Montenegro, overlooking the coastal town of Tivat and a peninsula dividing Tivat Bay from Kotor Bay. It is an extension of Mount Lovćen, and its highest peak is Sveti Ilija ''(Saint Elijah)'', which is 785 meters high. It is located north of town of Tivat, and encloses town of Kotor from the south. It is also the site of the Austro-Hungarian Fort Vrmac, built in 1860. Fort Vrmac
Fort Vrmac ( Montenegrin: ''Tvrđava Vrmac''/Тврђава Врмац, German: ''Werk Vermac'') is a former fortification of the Austro-Hungarian Empire located on the southern end of the Vrmac ridge near Tivat in Montenegro. Established in 1860, the present structure was built between 1894 and 1897, and saw action during the First World War, when it was heavily bombarded by the Montenegrins. It was repaired and disarmed before the end of the war and was abandoned after a period of occupation by Yugoslav troops. Today it is one of the best preserved Austro-Hungarian fortifications in the Bay of Kotor area. Background The southernmost tip of the Austro-Hungarian Empire included the area of the Bay of Kotor, which was used by the empire as a major naval base centred on the town of Kotor (known then as ''Cattaro''). Vrmac Tunnel
Vrmac Tunnel ( cnr, Tunel Vrmac) is a vehicular tunnel in southern Montenegro. The tunnel, which is 1,637 m long, connects town of Kotor with the Adriatic Motorway and the rest of Montenegro. It passes under Mount Vrmac, thus eliminating the journey along the old curvy road that passes over the mountain. The tunnel was half-finished in 1991, but was then opened to the public as it was, because of the lack of funding to finish it. In 2004 work began to finish the tunnel, and to bring it up to European standards. The construction works, undertaken by Austrian company Strabag STRABAG SE is an Austrian construction company based in Spittal an der Drau, Austria, with its headquarters in Vienna. Tivat Municipality ( Montenegrin and Serbian: Opština Tivat / Општина Тиват) is the smallest municipality in Montenegro by area, situated in the Bay of Kotor. The center of the municipality is the eponymous town, Tivat. Kotor (Montenegrin Cyrillic: Котор, ), historically known as Cattaro (from Italian: ), is a coastal town in Montenegro. It is located in a secluded part of the Bay of Kotor. Lovćen
Lovćen ( cyrl, Ловћен, ) is a mountain and national park in southwestern Montenegro. It is the inspiration behind the names ''Montenegro'' and ''Crna Gora'', both of which mean "Black Mountain" and refer to the appearance of Mount Lovćen when covered in dense forests. Adriatic Highway
The Adriatic Highway ( hr, Jadranska magistrala) is a road that stretches along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea and is part of the European route E65. The road passes through Croatia, with smaller stretches through Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro and ends at the Montenegro-Albania border. It is an undivided two-lane road for almost its entire length, with the exception of a short stretch through Zadar and a dual-carriageway section from Plano (Trogir) to the southeast suburbs of Split.
