Vestsjællands Lokalbaner
Vestsjællands Lokalbaner A/S (literally ''The Local Railways of West Zealand'', abbreviated VL) was a Danish railway company. It existed from 2003 to 2009. History A merger of Odsherreds Jernbane A/S (OHJ) and Høng-Tølløse Jernbane A/S (HTJ), VL was established in May 2003 after several years of close cooperation between the two companies. The company operated the former OHJ and HTJ lines, that is, Holbæk–Nykøbing Sjælland and Tølløse– Slagelse, respectively. The company workshop and headquarters were located in Holbæk. The company was merged with Lollandsbanen A/S and Østbanen into a new company, Regionstog A/S, on 1 January 2009. Regionstog A/S merged again with Lokalbanen A/S in 2015 to form the railway company Lokaltog A/S. Slagelse
Slagelse () is a town on Zealand, Denmark. The town is the seat of Slagelse Municipality, and is the biggest town of the municipality. It is located 15 km east of Korsør, 16 km north-east of Skælskør, 33 km south-east of Kalundborg and 14 km west of Sorø. History Slagelse has been inhabited since at least the Viking Age, where it was a Pagan site. Trelleborg, a ring castle, was built near the current location of Slagelse in 980, which made the location strategically important. A church was built at Slagelse's current location in the 1000s. Around this time, coins were minted in Slagelse. Antvorskov was built in the 1100s by Valdemar I, who had recently acquired Zealand. Rail Transport In Denmark
The rail transport system in Denmark consists of 2,633 km of railway lines, of which the Copenhagen S-train network, the main line Helsingør-Copenhagen-Padborg (at the German border), and the Lunderskov-Esbjerg line are electrified. Most traffic is passenger trains, although there is considerable transit goods traffic between Sweden and Germany. Maintenance work on most Danish railway lines is done by Banedanmark, a state-owned company that also allocates tracks for train operators. The majority of passenger trains are operated by DSB, with Arriva and Nordjyske Jernbaner operating on some lines in Jutland. Goods transport is mainly performed by DB Schenker Rail, although other operators take care of a significant portion of the non-transit traffic. Lokaltog A/S ( en, Local Trains Ltd) is a Danish railway company responsible for train operation and related passenger services on nine local railways on the islands of Zealand, Lolland and Falster in Denmark. The company was formed on 1 July 2015 as a merger of Lokalbanen A/S and Regionstog A/S. Movia owns a part of Lokaltog, whereas buses are owned by companies, subcontractors, that are paid by this transit agency to drive according to contract. Railway lines Lokaltog is responsible for train operation and related passenger services on nine local railways with a combined length of on the islands of Zealand, Lolland and Falster. The numbers are for the table only. There are no official train line numbers for these trains. Lokalbanen A/S (''The Local Railway'', abbreviated LB) was a Danish railway company responsible for train operation and related passenger services on five local railways north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The company was formed in 2001, and merged with Regionstog A/S in 2015 to form the railway company Lokaltog A/S. History Owned by the Greater Copenhagen Authority (HUR), Lokalbanen was established in 2001 following HUR's acquisition of the share of the railway lines previously owned by the Danish state. Regionstog A/S was a Danish railway company responsible for train operation on three private railway lines in Region Zealand: the Tølløse Line, the East Line and the Lolland Line. It was established in 2009 when Vestsjællands Lokalbaner A/S, Østbanen and Lollandsbanen A/S where merged. It merged with Lokalbanen A/S in 2015 to form the railway company Lokaltog A/S. Regionstog had administrative offices in Maribo and Holbæk. Østbanen (Denmark)
Østbanen (Danish for "The East Line") is a Danish local railway in the eastern part of Zealand. Østbanen started operations on 1 July 1879. It is today part of Lokaltog, a railway company operating nine local railways on the islands of Zealand, Lolland and Falster. Since December 2020, trains have run every 30 minutes between Roskilde and Faxe Ladeplads via Køge and Hårlev. There are also connecting services from Hårlev to Rødvig with a 3-5 minute connection time. The journey time from Roskilde to Faxe Ladeplads is 68 minutes. The stations of Himlingøje, Lille Linde, Tokkerup are outside of their respective villages, and it is even further between Faxe Syd station and Faxe and from Vallø station to Vallø castle. Lollandsbanen
A/S Lollandsbanen was a Danish railway company operating the Nykøbing F–Nakskov line mostly on the island of Lolland. Established in 1954, it was based on the remains of Det Lolland-Falsterske Jernbane-Selskab (LFJS). The company received funding from the now defunct Storstrøm County and from the central government. The company was merged with Vestsjællands Lokalbaner A/S and Østbanen into a new company, Regionstog A/S, on 1 January 2009 and then on 1 July 2015 into Lokaltog A/S.
