Varco is an unincorporated community in Mower County, Minnesota, United States. History Varco was platted in 1875, and named for Thomas Varco, the original owner of the town site. Varco was born in England and immigrated to Canada when he was four. He married Emaline Eddy, and in 1850 the two moved to Wisconsin. There are 87 counties in the U.S. state of Minnesota. There are also several historical counties. On October 27, 1849, nine counties were established: Benton, Dahkotah, Itasca, Ramsey, Mahkahta, Pembina, Wabasha, Washington, and Wahnata. Six of these names still exist. With the foundation of Kittson County on March 9, 1878, Pembina County no longer existed. When Minnesota was organized as a state, 57 of the present 87 counties were established. Mower County () is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,029. The county seat is Austin. Area code 507 is the telephone numbering plan code for the southern fifth of Minnesota, including cities such as Rochester, Mankato, Worthington, Fairmont, Albert Lea, Northfield, and Austin.
