Vanuatu National Under-20 Football Team
The Vanuatu national under-20 football team is the national U-20 team of Vanuatu and is controlled by the Vanuatu Football Federation. It was known as the New Hebrides national under-20 football team until 1980, when the New Hebrides gained their independence and renamed their country to Vanuatu. History The Vanuatu national under-20 football team took part in the OFC U-20 Championship tournament 14 times (1974, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016). In 2014, the team got the best result with a second place as they finished behind Fiji. Two years later, they would qualify for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup after defeating the Solomon Islands in the semifinals to book a spot and compete at their first ever FIFA tournament. The Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) is the main governing body of all association football, football in Vanuatu. It is an association of Vanuatu Football team, football clubs, and it organises national competitions and international matches for the Vanuatu national football team, Vanuatu National Football Team. The men's national team is ranked 164th in the FIFA Men's World Ranking, FIFA World Rankings (Men). The men compete in major tournaments like Intercontinental Cup (India), Hero Intercontinental Cup, World Cup qualifiers, FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (Oceania) and OFC Nations Cup. The OFC U-20 Championship 1988 was held in Suva, Fiji. It also served as qualification for the intercontinental play-offs for the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship. 2018 OFC U-19 Championship
The 2018 OFC U-19 Championship was the 22nd edition of the OFC U-19/U-20 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) for the men's under-19/under-20 national teams of Oceania. The qualifying stage was held in the Cook Islands between 26 May – 1 June 2018, and the final tournament was held in Tahiti between 5–18 August 2018. Before the tournament in 2016, the age limit was reduced by a year to 19 years of age. However, the last tournament remained the name U-20 Championship. For this tournament, the name has changed to U-19 Championship. So, players who wanted to participate in the tournament needed to be born on or after 1 January 1999. At an OFC Executive Committee meeting held at its Auckland headquarters in November 2013 the competition format was modified. The 2016 OFC U-20 Championship was the 21st edition of the OFC U-20 Championship, the biennial international youth football tournament organized by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) for players aged 19 and below (despite the name remaining as U-20 Championship). This year, the tournament was held in Vanuatu for the first time by itself (second time overall). Despite the name remaining as U-20 Championship, the age limit was reduced by a year to 19 years of age. So players who wanted to participate in the tournament needed to be born on or after 1 January 1997. The 2011 OFC U-20 Championship, was the 18th OFC Under 20 Qualifying Tournament, the biennial football championship of Oceania ( OFC). It was held in Auckland, New Zealand from 21 to 29 April 2011. 2005 OFC U-20 Championship
The 2005 OFC U-20 Championship was the fifteenth contested. It was won by Australia who qualified for the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup after a 3–0 victory against the Solomon Islands played at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands. The final game was abandoned in the 77th minute due to crowd trouble, however the score was allowed to stand.
