Valborg Platou
Valborg Platou (29 August 1839 – 29 December 1928) was a Norwegian librarian, writer and art critic. She was the first Norwegian female to become the chief librarian, a position that she held for 27 years at the Bergen Public Library. Bergen Public Library
Bergen Public Library ( no, Bergen Offentlige Bibliotek) is a library building and public library institution in Bergen, Norway. Founded in 1872, it is the second largest public library in Norway. In addition to the main building in Bergen's city centre, Bergen Public Library operates nine branch offices and the library service in Bergen's two prisons. History In the Middle Ages, Bergen and Trondheim were the main centres of literature in Norway, monasteries and churches containing the majority of books and libraries. St Mary's Church in Bergen possessed a large book collection that was open to the public. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Carl Nicolai Stoud Platou
Carl Nicolai Stoud Platou (26 June 1809 – 11 September 1888) was a Norwegian civil servant and politician. Personal life He was born in Oslo, Christiania as a son of educator, professor, politician and State Secretary Ludvig Stoud Platou (1749–1815) and his wife Karen Lumholtz (1785–1833). He was a maternal grandson of Nicolai Lumholtz and brother of Frederik Christian Stoud Platou, and through the latter an uncle of Oscar Ludvig Stoud Platou. In August 1838 in Undrumsdal he married Christence Dorothea Plade Nielsen (1817–1889). They had the son Lars Hannibal Sommerfeldt Stoud Platou and the daughter Valborg Platou. Bergen (), historically Bjørgvin, is a city and municipality in Vestland county on the west coast of Norway. , its population is roughly 285,900. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway. The King's Medal of Merit (Norwegian: ''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') is a Norwegian award. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society. The medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements. The medal is suspended from a ribbon in the colours of the Royal Standard of Norway. The medal in gold is ranked eighth in the ranking of Norwegian orders and medals.
