Vakhsh, Tajikistan
Vakhsh ( tg, Вахш, ) is a city in southwestern Tajikistan. It is the capital of Vakhsh District. The population of the town is 14,900 (January 2020 estimate). It is about 100 km from the capital, Dushanbe. It has one of the three Catholic Tajik churches under the Mission sui iuris of Tajikistan. Khatlon Region
Khatlon Region ( tg, Вилояти Хатлон, ''Viloyati Xatlon''), one of the four provinces of Tajikistan ( tg, вилоят, ''Viloyat''), is the most populous of the four first level administrative regions. It is situated in the southwest of the country, between the Hisor (Gissar) Range in the north and the river Panj in the south and borders on Afghanistan in the southeast and on Uzbekistan in the west. During Soviet times, Khatlon was divided into Kurgan-Tyube (Qurghonteppa) Oblast (Western Khatlon) – with the Kofarnihon and Vakhsh river valleys – and Kulob Oblast (Eastern Khatlon) – with the Kyzylsu and Yakhsu river valleys. Dushanbe
Dushanbe ( tg, Душанбе, ; ; russian: Душанбе) is the capital and largest city of Tajikistan. , Dushanbe had a population of 863,400 and that population was largely Tajik. Until 1929, the city was known in Russian as Dyushambe (russian: Дюшамбе, ''Dyushambe''), and from 1929 to 1961 as Stalinabad ( tg, Сталинобод, Stalinobod), after Joseph Stalin. Mission Sui Iuris Of Tajikistan
The Catholic Church in Tajikistan is part of the worldwide Catholic Church in Tajikistan ( West Turkistan, Central Asia), under the spiritual leadership of the Pope in Rome. In 2009, the size of the community was estimated at 300 people. This Mission sui iuris (pre-diocesan jurisdiction, also known as Independent Mission) for the Catholics is exempt, i.e. directly subject to the Holy See (not part of any ecclesiastical province), and comprises three churches (in the Tajik capital Dushanbe, and Vakhsh near Bokhtar), but no see.
