VISA (gene)
Mitochondrial antiviral-signaling protein (MAVS) is a protein that is essential for antiviral innate immunity. MAVS is located in the outer membrane of the mitochondria, peroxisomes, and mitochondrial-associated endoplasmic reticulum membrane (MAM). Upon viral infection, a group of cytosolic proteins will detect the presence of the virus and bind to MAVS, thereby activating MAVS. The activation of MAVS leads the virally infected cell to secrete cytokines. This induces an immune response which kills the host's virally infected cells, resulting in clearance of the virus. Structure MAVS is also known as IFN-β promoter stimulator I (IPS-1), caspase activation recruitment domain adaptor inducing I FN-β(CARDIF), or virus induced signaling adaptor (VISA). MAVS is encoded by a ''MAVS'' gene. MAVS is a 540 amino acid protein that consists of three components, a N terminal caspase activation recruitment domain (CARD), a proline rich domain, and a transmembrane C terminal domain (TM). A ...

Virtual Instrument Software Architecture
Virtual instrument software architecture (VISA) is a widely used application programming interface (API) in the test and measurement (T&M) industry for communicating with instruments from a computer. VISA is an industry standard implemented by several T&M companies, such as, Anritsu, Bustec, Keysight Technologies, Kikusui, National Instruments, Rohde & Schwarz, and Tektronix. The VISA standard includes specifications for communication with resources (usually, but not always, instruments) over T&M-specific I/O interfaces such as GPIB and VXI. There are also some specifications for T&M-specific protocols over PC-standard I/O, such as HiSLIP or VXI-11 (over TCP/IP) and USBTMC (over USB). The VISA library has standardized the presentation of its operations over several software reuse mechanisms, including through a C API exposed from Windows DLL, visa32.dll, over the Microsoft COM technology, and through a .NET API. Although there are several VISA vendors and implementations, appl ...

Vancomycin Intermediate-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus
Vancomycin-resistant ''Staphylococcus aureus'' (VRSA) are strains of ''Staphylococcus aureus'' that have become resistant to the glycopeptide antibiotic vancomycin. Mechanism of acquired resistance Strains of hVISA and vancomycin-intermediate ''Staphylococcus aureus'' (VISA) do not have resistant genes found in ''Enterococcus'' and the proposed mechanisms of resistance include the sequential mutations resulting in a thicker cell wall and the synthesis of excess amounts of D-ala-D-ala residues. VRSA strain acquired the vancomycin resistance gene cluster ''vanA'' from VRE. Diagnosis The diagnosis of vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus can be done with disk diffusion(and VA screen plate) Treatment of infection For isolates with a vancomycin minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) , an alternative to vancomycin should be used. The approach is to treat with at least one agent to which VISA/VRSA is known to be susceptible by ''in vitro'' testing. The agents that are used i ...
