State Route 139 (SR 139) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known for most of its length as Jarratt Avenue, the state highway runs from SR 610 east to U.S. Route 301 in Virginia, U.S. Route 301 (US 301) and SR 631 within Jarratt, Virginia, Jarratt. SR 139 connects the town of Jarratt, which has sections in both Greensville County, Virginia, Greensville County and Sussex County, Virginia, Sussex County, to US 301 and, via SR 631, Interstate 95 in Virginia, Interstate 95 (I-95). Route description SR 139 begins at a three-way intersection with SR 610 (Allen Road) and Grigg Avenue in the western part of the town of Jarratt. The state highway heads northeast as two-lane undivided Allen Road, which intersects a railroad spur that serves the adjacent Georgia-Pacific plant. Jarratt, Virginia
Jarratt is a town in Greensville and Sussex counties in the U.S. state of Virginia. The population was 652 at the 2020 census. In 1848, Jarratt was a stop on the Petersburg Railroad. Jaratt was incorporated in 1938. Geography Jarratt is located on the border of Greensville and Sussex counties, just west of Interstate 95, which provides access from Exit 20 (Henry Road). It is north of Emporia and south of Petersburg via I-95. The former Petersburg Railroad line within the town was acquired by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad of Virginia, which is today part of the CSX North End Subdivision. It also contained a junction with the main line of the Virginian Railway, which was acquired by the Norfolk and Western Railway, and later abandoned, with the exception of a short spur west from the North End Subdivision to the Georgia-Pacific Jarratt Sheathing Plant. Greensville County, Virginia
Greensville County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,391. Its county seat is Emporia. History Greensville County was established in 1781 from Brunswick County. The county is probably named for Sir Richard Grenville, leader of the settlement on Roanoke Island, 1585. Sussex County is a rural county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,829. Its county seat is Sussex. It was formed in 1754 from Surry County. The county is named after the county of Sussex, England. Sussex County is included in the Greater Richmond Region. Interstate 95 (I-95) runs within the Commonwealth of Virginia between its borders with North Carolina and Maryland. The North End Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in Virginia and North Carolina. The line runs from Richmond, Virginia, to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, for a total of 123.2 miles. At its north end the line continues south from the Richmond Terminal Subdivision and at its south end the line continues south as the South End Subdivision. A diamond interchange is a common type of road junction, used where a controlled-access highway crosses a minor road. Design The freeway itself is grade-separated from the minor road, one crossing the other over a bridge. State Route 137 (SR 137) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from SR 40 in Kenbridge east to SR 46 at Danieltown. SR 137 runs concurrently with SR 138 in eastern Lunenburg County and connects Kenbridge with SR 46, the main north–south highway of Brunswick County.
