Vindija (company)
Vindija is Croatian food company based in Varaždin. Vindija is mainly known for its dairy products and beverages. History Vindija was founded in 1959 when the city of Varaždin needed a dairy to supply the city with fresh milk. It employed only about fifteen people. In 1965, the dairy was integrated in to a larger company called ZPPK Kalnik. At the same time, Dragutin Drk became the director, and he remains in place today (). The name Vindija started to be used in 1970, after the nearby Vindija Cave near Ivanec, a known archeological site, as it was assumed that the cave had been used as a natural environment for ripening cheeses. Croatian Kuna
The kuna is the currency of Croatia, in use since 1994 (sign: kn; code: HRK). It is subdivided into 100 lipa. The kuna is issued by the Croatian National Bank and the coins are minted by the Croatian Mint. The plural form of the word kuna in Croatian can be ''kuna'' or ''kune'' (e.g. ''2 kune'', ''10 kuna'') because of different number declension rules. 2022 will be the final year for the kuna as Croatia will replace it with the euro (€, EUR) on 1 January 2023. All Croatian bank accounts and credit cards will automatically be converted to euros and kuna cash may be exchanged for euros at no charge. Vindija Cave
Vindija Cave is an archaeological site associated with Neanderthals and modern humans, located in the municipality of Donja Voća, northern Croatia. Three of these Neanderthals were selected as the primary sources for the first draft sequence of the Neanderthal genome project. Description The cave is located roughly west of the city of Varaždin and north of Ivanec. It is estimated that Neanderthals used the cave 40,000 years ago; approximately 8000 years before modern humans lived in that part of Europe. The hominid specimens at level 3G are regarded as unquestionably Neanderthal in overall morphology but exhibit a number of traits that sit closer to anatomically modern Europeans than to the traditional Neanderthal.
