Village Creek (Missouri)
Village Creek is a stream in Madison County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the Little Saint Francis River. The stream headwaters arise just south of the Madison - St Francois county line at and an elevation of 1020 feet. The stream flows south past the mine workings and Mine La Motte then turns southwest to pass just north of Junction City and to its confluence with the Little Saint Francis at (elevation: 606 ft.) northwest of Fredericktown. Little Saint Francis River
The Little St. Francis River is a stream in eastern St. Francois and northeastern Madison counties of southeastern Missouri. It is a tributary of the St. Francis River. The stream headwaters arise in eastern St. Francois County on the north flank of Lewis Hill about one mile southwest of the St. Francois- Ste. Genevieve county line. The stream flows west past the community of Libertyville passing under Missouri Route OO and turns to the south about three miles east of Knob Lick. The stream meanders to the south into Madison County passing west of Mine La Motte. The stream is impounded as City Lake on the northeast side of Fredericktown and passes just west of Fredericktown before turning west and passing under U.S. Route 67. Mine La Motte, Missouri
Mine La Motte is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Madison County, Missouri, United States. It is located approximately six miles north of Fredericktown. Europeans discovered lead here and had also hoped to find silver. The French Governor of Louisiana, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, failed to find silver, but succeeded in recruiting investors in The Company of the West, which was organized in 1717. Mine La Motte was eventually settled by about 200 French settlers along with their slaves from Santo Domingo, under the leadership of Philip François Renault, to develop mines in 1717, making it one of the oldest settlements west of the Mississippi River. St. Michel is an abandoned village located in Madison County, Missouri, United States. St. Michel is now incorporated into Fredericktown. Etymology Although the origin of the name is not certain, one of the original founders of the village of St. Michel − Nicholas Caillot − had been a "Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michel" in France, and this most likely accounts for the name.
