Villa Falconieri (film)
''Villa Falconieri'' is a 1928 German-Italian silent drama film directed by Richard Oswald and starring Maria Jacobini, Hans Stüwe, and Eve Gray. It was based on the 1896 novel of the same title by Richard Voss. The film was shot at the Johannisthal Studios in Berlin and the Fert Studios in Berlin. Location shooting took place at the real Villa Falconieri outside Rome. The film's sets were designed by the art director Heinrich Richter. It premiered at the Ufa-Pavillon am Nollendorfplatz in Berlin on 20 September 1928, with the first Italian release taking place in March 1929. Synopsis A young count and poet rents the Villa Falconieri to be near to the Princess Sora with whom he believes himself in love. However while there he encounters the beautiful Maria Mariano and her brutish husband Vittorio. Richard Oswald
Richard Oswald (5 November 1880 – 11 September 1963) was an Austrian film director, producer, screenwriter, and father of German-American film director Gerd Oswald. Early career Richard Oswald, born in Vienna as Richard W. Ornstein, began his career as an actor on the Viennese stage. He made his film directorial debut at age 34 with ''The Iron Cross'' (1914) and worked a number of times for Jules Greenbaum. In 1916, Oswald set up his own production company in Germany, writing and directing most of his films himself. Johannisthal Studios
The Johannisthal Studios were film studios located in the Berlin area of Johannisthal. Founded in 1920 on the site of a former airfield, they were a centre of production during the Weimar and Nazi eras. Nearly four hundred films were made at Johannistal during the silent period. Sometimes known as the Jofa Studios, in 1929 they became the base of the newly established German major studio Tobis Film at the beginning of the sound era. After 1945 the studios fell into the Soviet Zone of Germany, and later into the Communist state of East Germany.Bergfelder p.24 The studios were used by the new monopoly film company DEFA. Villa Falconieri
The Villa Falconieri is a villa in Frascati, Italy. History The villa was originally called Villa Rufina, having been was initially built by Monsignor Alessandro Rufini. Later it was enlarged thanks to Pope Paul III, dates back to 1546. In 1628 Orazio Falconieri purchased the villa and commissioned Francesco Borromini to oversee its renovation. His aim was for him and his brother, Cardinal Lelio Falconieri, to be buried there Important architects worked on the design such as Antonio da Sangallo the Younger and Borromini. The interior houses frescoes by Pier Leone Ghezzi, Giacinto Calandrucci, Ciro Ferri, Niccolò Berrettoni, and others.
