Victor Khoury
Victor Khoury (1929-2 February 2017) (in Arabic فيكتور خوري) was the commander of the Lebanese Army. He was also Minister of Defense in the Lebanese government led by Selim Hoss during the reign of President Elias Sarkis from December 1978 to July 1979. Khoury was born in Amchit, Caza of Byblos, Lebanon. He was enrolled in the Army and entered the Military Academy as a Cadet Officer in 1948. He was promoted gradually through the ranks until he was Lieutenant Colonel in 1966 and Brigiadier General in 1977. He was appointed as General of the Army from 28 March 1977 to 7 December 1982. He was married and had three children. He died on 2 February 2017. He was 88 years old. Selim Ahmed Hoss ( ar, سليم أحمد الحص; also transliterated ''Salim Al-Hoss;'' born 20 December 1929) is a veteran Lebanese politician who served as the Prime Minister of Lebanon and a longtime Member of Parliament representing his hometown, Beirut. He is known as a technocrat. Early life and personal life Hoss was born into a Sunni Muslim family in Beirut in 1929. He received his undergraduate degree in economics from the American University of Beirut and a PhD in business and economics from Indiana University in the United States. Hoss was married to Leila Pharaoun, a Maronite Christian who converted to Islam at the end of her life in order to be buried next to her husband in a Muslim cemetery, according to a 2000 interview with Hoss. Amchit
Amsheet (, '; also spelled Amchit) is a seaside town and municipality in the Byblos District of Keserwan-Jbeil Governorate, Lebanon, about 40 km north of Beirut. The town's average elevation is 140 meters above sea level and its total land area is 595 hectares. Its inhabitants are predominantly Maronites, although there is a Shia Muslim minority.
