Jean Njeim
Jean Njeim (Arabic: جان نجيم) (1915–24 July 1971) was a Lebanese Army general commander. He was born in Kfartyeh-Caza, Keserwan, Ottoman Empire in 1915. He entered the Military Academy at Homs as a cadet officer in 1933. He was promoted to colonel in 1959 and to brigadier general in 1965 and to general in 1967. Njeim was appointed commander of the Lebanese Army on 7 January 1979, replacing Emile Bustani who had been removed from the post. Jean Kahwaji
Jean Kahwaji (, ar, جان قهوجي; born 1953) is a former Lebanese military officer and Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces from 2008 to 2017. Career Kahwaji joined the Lebanese army in 1973. He trained abroad, especially in the United States and Italy. He also underwent anti-terrorism training in Germany in 2006, as well as in Italy. Michel Suleiman
Michel Suleiman ( ar, ميشال سليمان ; born 21 November 1948) is a Lebanese Maronite Christian politician who served as President of Lebanon from 2008 to 2014. Before becoming president, he served as commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces from 1998 to 2008. After Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) commander Émile Lahoud took office as president in November 1998, Suleiman succeeded him, taking his place in December. Émile Jamil Lahoud (born 12 January 1936) was a Lebanese politician who served as the 16th president of Lebanon from 1998 to 2007. His main foreign-policy achievement was to end the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon in May 2000, which was occupied since 1982. He downplayed sectarianism and rearmed the Lebanese army, with help from Syria. However factionalism and Lebanon's politics undermined his strength. Ibrahim Tannous
Ibrahim Tannous (1929 – December 26, 2012) was a former commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces. General Tannous earned a reputation for honesty and was seen as “a general willing to get his uniform dirty to build a fighting Lebanese Army,” in the words of one Arab authority. Gen. Tannous took over command of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in December 1982, during the early years of the civil war and oversaw joint operations with the Multinational Force that was in charge of training LAF forces and restoring order to Beirut. Victor Khoury
Victor Khoury (1929-2 February 2017) (in Arabic فيكتور خوري) was the commander of the Lebanese Army. He was also Minister of Defense in the Lebanese government led by Selim Hoss during the reign of President Elias Sarkis from December 1978 to July 1979. Khoury was born in Amchit, Caza of Byblos, Lebanon. He was enrolled in the Army and entered the Military Academy as a Cadet Officer in 1948. He was promoted gradually through the ranks until he was Lieutenant Colonel in 1966 and Brigiadier General in 1977. He was appointed as General of the Army from 28 March 1977 to 7 December 1982. Iskandar Ghanem
Iskandar Ghanem (, 1911–2005) was a Lebanese army general who was the commander-in-chief of the Lebanese army in the period from 1971 to 1976. He was close to Suleiman Frangieh and held the post during his presidency. Biography Ghanem was born in Saghbine, West Bekaa, in 1911 and hailed from a Maronite family. He was dismissed from the Lebanese army, but he rejoined the army on 24 July 1971 when he was promoted to the rank of general and appointed commander-in-chief of the army. Ghanem replaced Jean Njeim in the post who died in a helicopter crash on 24 July 1975. In May 1975 Ghanem was also named minister of national defense and minister of electrical and hydraulic resources in the military cabinet led by retired brigadier general Noureddine Abdullah Rifai. Emile Boustany
Emile Boustany (1909–2002) was a Lebanese military general who served as the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces from 1 July 1965 until 6 January 1970. Biography Boustany was born in Jounieh to a poor Lebanese family. He served as a commander with the rank of general in the Lebanese Armed Forces from 1 July 1965 to 6 January 1970. Boustany went to Egypt in 1969 and drafted the Cairo Accord, which was the first official concession of sovereignty of the Lebanese state. It is said that Egyptian President Nasser was pleasantly surprised to see the degree of concession offered to him - at the time Egypt had a strong say in electing the Lebanese president.
