The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high school, high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. As early as 1910, Kansas schools organized the statewide Debate League and Athletic Association governed by high school principals. The Athletic Association started as a small voluntary group of fewer than 50 schools and grew to more than 500 schools by the 1920s. Out of necessity, the member schools adopted eligibility and participation rules and established authority for a Board of Control to assess penalties against schools for violations. Vliets is an unincorporated community in Marshall County, Kansas, United States. It is located at the southern terminus of Kansas Highway 87. History Vliets was laid out in 1889. It was named for the Van Vliet family, the original owner of the town site. A post office was opened in Vliets in 1897, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1992. Frankfort is a city in Marshall County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 730. History Frankfort was laid out in 1867 when the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad was built through the area. The nearby post office of Nottingham, established in 1857, moved roughly a half-mile northwest to meet the railroad. It was named for Frank Schmidt, a member of the town company. Frankfort was incorporated as a city of the third class in 1875. The town lost 32 men during World War II, more per capita than any other community in the USA. Centralia, Kansas
Centralia is a city in Nemaha County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 485. History Centralia was founded in 1859, one mile north of the present town. When a railroad was built through the territory in 1867, Centralia was moved to the site. Centralia was incorporated in 1882. One of the early residents of Centralia was Floyd Perry Baker, a Kansas politician and newspaper editor, who moved there with his family from Andrew County, Missouri around 1860.
