Vereide
Vereide is a village in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located along the central part of the eastern shore of the Gloppefjorden, along the European route E39 highway. It sits about northwest of the municipal center of Sandane and about southeast of Sandane Airport, Anda. Vereide Church is located in this village, right on the shore of the fjord. There is some development right along the fjord, but due to the relatively steep hill, most development is located higher up on rather flat area further inland. Nordfjord folkehøgskule, a Christian folk high school, is located in Vereide. Vereide Church
Vereide Church ( no, Vereide kyrkje) is a medieval parish church of the Church of Norway in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is the only stone church in the Nordfjord region. It is located in the village of Vereide, along the eastern coast of the Gloppefjorden. It is one of the four churches for the Gloppen parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, stone church was built in a long church style in the 12th century by an unknown architect. The church seats about 460 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1303, but the church was not new at that time. The church is a stone long church that was likely built in the 12th century, possibly in 1163 (this year is inscribed in an archway within the building). Gloppen Municipality
Gloppen is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Nordfjord. Gloppen is generally subdivided into three areas: Hyen in the west, Gloppen in the center, and Breim in the east. Each of the areas have their own main service centres. Sandane, the administrative centre of the municipality, is the largest with about 2,500 inhabitants. Sandane, Vereide, and Sørstranda are centered on the Gloppefjorden in Gloppen in the central part of the municipality. The villages of Byrkjelo, Re, Kandal, and Egge are centered on the lake Breimsvatnet in the Breim area in the east. The villages of Straume, Eimhjellen, and Solheim are located around the Hyefjorden in Hyen in the west. The whole municipality sits on the southern side of the large Nordfjorden. Gloppefjorden
Gloppefjorden or Gloppenfjorden is a fjord in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The long fjord flows from the village of Sandane in the southeast to its mouth at the Nordfjorden in the northwest. The river Gloppeelva is the primary inflow on the fjord. The river comes from the large lake Breimsvatnet. The wide fjord has a lot of settlements along the inner parts of the fjord, especially on the eastern side of the fjord. Sandane Airport ( no, Sandane lufthavn; ) is a regional airport serving the village of Sandane in Vestland county, Norway. It perpendicularly straddles the Anda peninsula in Gloppen Municipality between the Nordfjorden and Gloppefjorden. The airport has an asphalt runway measuring and aligned 09/27. Services are provided by Widerøe on public service obligation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
