Vasili Stepanovich Popov - Popowski (russian: Василий Степанович Попов, pl, Bazyli Popowski; 1743–1822) was an Imperial Russian general and statesman who presided over the office of Prince Potemkin. Bazyli Popowski vel Vasili Popov was born in the Polish noble family of the Pobóg coat of arms. The father of Bazyli Popowski was Szczepan Popowski, a state official in Kazan. Szczepan Popowski was born in the family estate of Popovo - Kuligóv ( pl, Popowo - Kuligowo), today Popowo-Parcele in Poland in Mazovia. The owner of the Popovo - Kuligov estate was Aleksander Popowski, father of Szczepan Popowski. In 1792 Popov advised Empress Catherine II of Russia on Polish affairs. Johann Baptist von Lampi the Elder (german: Johann Baptist von Lampi der Ältere, pl, Jan Chrzciciel Lampi; 31 December 1751 – 11 February 1830) was an Austrian-Italian historical and portrait painter. He settled in the Russian Empire after the third and final partition of Poland, enticed by an extremely generous offer from the Tsar. Life Johann Baptist Lampi was born at Romeno in the County of Tyrol to Matteo, or Matthias, Lampi (1698-1780), a decorative painter. Frescoes by his father may be found in many elegant buildings there. He studied art under his father in Verona and later in Salzburg. In 1773 he went to Trento, where he learned to become a portraitist in canvases and miniatures. Popov Castle
The Vasylivka Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve "Popov Manor House" (also known as Vasylivka Castle) is an established museum complex at a partly preserved manor house built between 1864 and 1884 near the town of Vasylivka, Ukraine by Vasili Popov Jr. (a grandson of General Vasili Stepanovich Popov). The Historic and Cultural Reserve was created on 29 January 1993 in place of the existing Vasylivka museum of local history. Manor House Its Gothic Revival design is attributed to Nicholas Benois. The main house had a telescope, a picture gallery, and an ethnographic museum. The castle was looted by the Bolsheviks and ruined by the Germans in the Second World War. Vasylivka ( uk, Васи́лівка, ; rus, links=on, Васильевка, p=vɐˈsʲilʲjɪfkə) is a city in Zaporizhzhia Oblast (province) in southern Ukraine. It serves as the administrative center of Vasylivka Raion. The city is situated on the banks of the Kakhovka Reservoir on the Dnieper River. Population: History The area was settled by the Zaporozhian Cossacks in the 1740s.
