Vasylivka
Vasylivka ( uk, Васи́лівка, ; rus, links=on, Васильевка, p=vɐˈsʲilʲjɪfkə) is a city in Zaporizhzhia Oblast (province) in southern Ukraine. It serves as the administrative center of Vasylivka Raion. The city is situated on the banks of the Kakhovka Reservoir on the Dnieper River. Population: History The area was settled by the Zaporozhian Cossacks in the 1740s. In 1788, Catherine II of Russia granted the region to a landlord Basil Popowski, a Russian general whose name Vasylivka as his manor still bears. His grandson built the Popov Manor House there. The residence was visited by Anton Makarenko in 1925. In January 1989, according to the census, population was 16,325. In January 2013, population was 13,996. Popov Manor House
The Vasylivka Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve "Popov Manor House" (also known as Vasylivka Castle) is an established museum complex at a partly preserved manor house built between 1864 and 1884 near the town of Vasylivka, Ukraine by Vasili Popov Jr. (a grandson of General Vasili Stepanovich Popov). The List of historic reserves in Ukraine, Historic and Cultural Reserve was created on 29 January 1993 in place of the existing Vasylivka museum of local history. Manor House Its Gothic Revival design is attributed to Nicholas Benois. The main house had a telescope, a picture gallery, and an ethnographic museum. The castle was looted by the Bolsheviks and ruined by the Germans in the Second World War. Restoration works did not start until the 1990s. Zaporizhzhia Oblast ( uk, Запорі́зька о́бласть, translit=Zaporizka oblast), also referred to as Zaporizhzhia ( uk, Запорі́жжя, links=no), is an oblast (province) of southeast Ukraine. Southern Ukraine Offensive
The southern Ukraine campaign is an ongoing theatre of operation in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine which began on 24 February 2022. From their base in Russian-occupied Crimea, the Russian Armed Forces attacked Kherson Oblast, Mykolaiv Oblast, and Zaporizhzhia Oblast in southern Ukraine, battling the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Elements from the southern Russian offensive joined forces with elements from the eastern Ukraine offensive to jointly surround and bombard the city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast, which fell after months of siege. The Russian occupation of Zaporizhzhia Oblast is an ongoing military occupation, which began on 24 February 2022, as Russian forces invaded Ukraine and began capturing the southern portion of Zaporizhzhia Oblast. On 26 February, the city of Berdiansk came under Russian control, followed by the Russian victory at Melitopol on 1 March. Manorialism, also known as the manor system or manorial system, was the method of land ownership (or "tenure") in parts of Europe, notably France and later England, during the Middle Ages.
