Vasai (Vidhan Sabha Constituency)
Vasai Assembly constituency is one of the 288 Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituencies of Maharashtra state in western India. Overview Vasai constituency is one of the six Vidhan Sabha constituencies located in the Palghar district. It is a non-reserved assembly constituency and part of Vasai taluka of the district. Vasai is part of the Palghar Lok Sabha constituency along with five other Vidhan Sabha segments, namely Dahanu, Vikramgad, Palghar, Boisar and Nalasopara in the Palghar district. Before delimitation, Vasai Assembly constituency was part of the Mumbai North (Lok Sabha constituency). Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha
The Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha or the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nariman Point area of South Mumbai in the capital Mumbai. Presently, 288 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from the single-seat constituencies. The members of the upper house, the Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad (the legislative council) are indirectly elected through an electoral college. Sessions The budget session and the monsoon session are convened in Mumbai whereas the winter session is convened in the auxiliary capital Nagpur. Vasai (Konkani and Marathi pronunciation: ‹É™sÉ™i formerly and alternatively Mahratti; ''Bajipur'', English: Bassein; Portuguese: Baçaim), is a historical place and City near Mumbai (Bombay)'s western suburbs, located in Palghar district which was partitioned from the Thane district in 2014. It also forms a part of Vasai-Virar twin cities in the Konkan division of Maharashtra, India. The Portuguese in Goa and Damaon built the Vasai Fort to defend their colony and participate in the lucrative spice trade and the silk route that converged in the area. Much of Portuguese Bombay and Vasai was seized by Marathas during the period of Peshva rule, after the Battle of Vasai in 1739. The British East India Company then took over the territory from the Maratha Empire in 1780 during the First Anglo-Maratha War. 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Election
The 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election was held on 21 October 2019 to elect all 288 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. After a 61.4% turnout in the election, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (SHS) won a majority. Following differences over the government formation, the alliance was dissolved, precipitating a political crisis. Since a council of ministers had not been formed after no party could manage to form the government, President's rule was imposed in the state. 2014 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Election
The Indian state of Maharashtra has a bicameral legislature, comprising two houses. The lower house, known as the Legislative Assembly ("Vidhan Sabha" in Marathi), is directly elected by the people and is the more powerful of the two houses.
