Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. Argentina competed at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the nation's fifth appearance out of eight editions of the Summer Olympic Games. Argentina sent its second national team, under the auspices of the Argentine Olympic Committee (Comité OlÃmpico Argentino), 81 athletes (all males) that competed in 41 events in 12 sports.
