Argentina At The 1928 Summer Olympics
Argentina competed at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the nation's fifth appearance out of eight editions of the Summer Olympic Games. Argentina sent its second national team, under the auspices of the Argentine Olympic Committee (Comité Olímpico Argentino), 81 athletes (all males) that competed in 41 events in 12 sports. Argentina competed in equestrian, football, sailing, water polo, and wrestling for the first time. Argentina won 3 gold medals, its first Olympic championships in boxing (2 gold medals) and swimming. Raimundo Bibiani "Mumo" Orsi (2 December 1901 – 6 April 1986) was an Italian Argentine footballer who played as a winger or as a forward. At the international level he represented both Argentina and Italy, winning the 1927 Copa América and the silver medal at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with Argentina, as well as two editions of the Central European International Cup and the 1934 FIFA World Cup, with Italy. Rodolfo Orlando Orlandini (1 January 1905 – 24 December 1990) was an Argentine football (soccer) midfielder who played for the Argentina national team between 1927 and 1930. Pedro Ochoa (February 22, 1900 – September 5, 1947) was an Argentine football forward. At club level, he played his entire career for Racing Club, where he won 12 titles with the team. Luis Felipe Monti (15 May 1901 – 9 September 1983) was an Italian Argentine footballer who played as a midfielder and an Olympian. Monti has the distinction of having played in two FIFA World Cup final matches with two different national teams. He played the first of these finals with his native Argentina in 1930, which was lost to Uruguay; and the second with Italy as one of their ''Oriundi'' in 1934, thanks to his Romagnol descent. Segundo Luna (born 20 April 1902) was an Argentine footballer, born in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. He was the first Santiagueño (person who was born in Santiago del Estero) to play in Argentina's national football team as well as the first to play in an international tournament. Luna's team finished second in the Athletic Club Students Cultural Football League. He then joined the international football team in 1927, the year before the Olympics in Amsterdam. His first tournament was the 1927 South American Championship, in Lima, Peru, where Argentina qualified for the 1928 Olympics. The name 'Segundo Luna' means 'Second Moon' in Spanish. Manuel Ferreira (footballer)
Manuel Ferreira (22 October 1905 – 29 July 1983) was an Argentine footballer who was a member of the Argentina national team. Ferreira was part of the Argentine squad that won the football silver medal at the 1928 Olympic tournament. He also captained the Argentine team at the 1930 FIFA World Cup finals, in which Argentina finished as runner-up. Juan Evaristo
Juan Evaristo (20 June 1902 – 8 May 1978) was an Argentine football wing half-back who played for Argentina between 1923 and 1930. Along with his younger brother Mario, an outside left, they became the first siblings to appear in a World Cup final. Club career Evaristo played for Sportivo Palermo, Club Atlético Huracán and Sportivo Barracas during the amateur era of Argentine football. In 1931 he joined Boca Juniors helping them to win the first ever professional title in Argentine football.
