Valdresflya
Valdresflye, also spelled Valdresflya and Valdresflyi, is a mountain plateau in the easternmost part of the Jotunheimen mountains in Norway. The plateau lies in Innlandet county, mostly in Øystre Slidre Municipality, but a small area extends into Vang Municipality as well. The Norwegian County Road 51 runs over the plateau, reaching above mean sea level, but this road is only open in the summers. The plateau is surrounded by several mountains including Gråhøi to the east, Heimdalshøe to the northeast, Tjønnholstinden to the northwest, and Rasletinden to the west. The lakes Bygdin and Vinstre lie along the south side of the plateau. Name The plateaus is named ''Valdresflye''. The first element is the name of the district Valdres in which it is located. The last element is the finite form of ''fly'' which means 'flat mountain plateau'. Øystre Slidre
Øystre Slidre is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Valdres. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Heggenes. Other villages in the municipality include Hegge, Rogne, Volbu, Moane, Skammestein, Beito, and Beitostølen. The municipality is the 120th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Øystre Slidre is the 221st most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 3,252. The municipality's population density is and its population has increased by 2.5% over the previous 10-year period. Jotunheimen
Jotunheimen (; "the home of the Jötunn") is a mountainous area of roughly in southern Norway and is part of the long range known as the Scandinavian Mountains. The 29 highest mountains in Norway are all located in the Jotunheimen mountains, including the tall mountain Galdhøpiggen (the highest point in Norway). The Jotunheimen mountains straddle the border between Innlandet and Vestland counties (historically part of the old Oppland and Sogn og Fjordane counties). Tourism Jotunheimen is very popular with hikers and climbers, and the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association maintains a number of mountain lodges in the area, as well as marked trails that run between the lodges and others that run up to some of the peaks. Norwegian County Road 51
County Road 51 ( no, Fylkesvei 51) is a highway which runs north–south between Vågå and Gol, Norway. Part of the road runs concurrently with E16, between Leira and Fagernes. The section across Valdresflye is designated a National Tourist Route. This section is closed in the winter. Prior to 2010, the road was known as National Road 51 ( no, Riksvei 51). Bitihorn
Bitihorn (local pronunciation: ) is a mountain on the border of Vang Municipality and Øystre Slidre Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain is located in the Jotunheimen mountains about northwest of the village of Beitostølen. The mountain is surrounded by several other notable mountains including Rasletind and Raslet to the north, Gråhøi and Kvernhøi to the northeast, and Skaget to the east. It is situated on the west side of Norwegian County Road 51, and because of its location, it is a landmark for tourists following that popular driving route. Geology The mountain is steep towards south and east, and there is a subtle change in the rock layers between the sparagmite foundation and the summit which consists of the much harder gabbro rock. Heimdalshøe
Heimdalshøe is a mountain on the border of Nord-Fron Municipality and Vågå Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain is located in the Jotunheimen mountains and in the upper Sikkilsdalen valley. The mountain sits about south of the village of Vågåmo and about north of the village of Beitostølen. The mountain is surrounded by several other notable mountains including Styggehøe, Gravdalsknappen, and Ingulssjøhøi to the northeast; and Besshø and Besseggen to the northwest. The following list includes those 186 that have a topographic prominence of 50 meters or more. Valdres
Valdres () is a traditional district in central, southern Norway, situated between the districts of Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal. The region of Valdres consists of the six municipalities of Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal, Øystre Slidre, Vestre Slidre, Vang and Etnedal. Valdres has about 18,000 inhabitants and is known for its excellent trout fishing and the local dialect. Its main road is E16 and Fylkesveg 51. Valdres is located approximately midway between Oslo and Bergen. The valley is protected to the west and north by the Jotunheimen mountains and the Valdresflye plateau and to the south by the Gol mountain ridge (''Golsfjellet''). Vinstre
Vinstre is a lake in Innlandet county, Norway. The lake lies in Øystre Slidre Municipality and the very western tip of the lake crosses over into the neighboring Vang Municipality. The lake sits at an elevation of above sea level. Vinstre was regulated in connection with the construction of the Øvre Vinstra hydroelectric power plant. The lake Bygdin flows into this lake and on the opposite end, it flows out into the dammed lake Sandvatnet/Kaldfjorden/Øyvatnet which is the headwaters for the river Vinstra. Along its northern shore runs the Jotunheimvegen summer toll road, built in the 1950s as a result of hydroelectricity development affecting the operation of the earlier milk boat service. Name The name of the lake is (maybe) derived from the verb which means "bend", "twist", or "wind" with the suffix ''-str'' added to the end. Bygdin
Bygdin is a lake in Vang Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The is located in the southern part of the Jotunheimen mountain range. The long, narrow mountain lake is located between the large lakes Tyin (to the west) and Vinstre to the east. The depth of Bygdin is regulated for hydroelectric power generation at nearby power plants. The normal level of the water lies between above sea level. The maximum depth of the lake is . The Vinsteråni river runs out Bygdin, passes through the Vinstre and Vinstervatna lakes and into the river Vinstra. That river later flows into the Gudbrandsdalslågen river. Rasletinden
Rasletind or Rasletinden is a mountain on the border of Vang Municipality and Vågå Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain is located in the Jotunheimen mountains within Jotunheimen National Park. The mountain sits about southwest of the village of Vågåmo and about northwest of the village of Beitostølen. The mountain is surrounded by several other notable mountains including Gråhøi to the east; Bukkehåmåren, Høgdebrotet, and Eggi to the north; Tjønnholstinden and Tjønnholsoksle to the northwest; and Kalvehøgde and Leirungskampen to the west. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag.
