VOCM-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 97.5 MHz from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. VOCM is an AM radio station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, broadcasting at 590 kHz. Owned by Stingray Group, VOCM first went on the air on October 19, 1936. Through the "VOCM/Big Land FM Radio Network" of stations owned by Stingray, VOCM programming is carried throughout the province. VOCM and its sister station VOCM-FM are among the four radio stations in Canada having call signs beginning with the prefix VO, the ITU prefix issued to the Dominion of Newfoundland before its confederation into Canada in 1949. The other two, VOWR and VOAR-FM, also broadcast in St. John's; all but VOCM-FM predate the confederation. CKXD-FM (98.7 FM) is a Canadian radio station broadcasting from Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, at 98.7 MHz with a classic rock format branded on-air as ''97.5 K-Rock''. History The station launched between 1973 and 1974 as CJCR at 1350 kHz, and is currently owned by Stingray Group. In 1977, after Don Jamieson bought out Geoff Stirling's interest in Radio CJYQ-930 Ltd., CJCR was renamed CFYQ. In 1983, Jamieson sold his company to CHUM Limited. In 1989, CHUM Limited sold the "Q" stations to Newcap. By 1990, CFYQ had changed frequencies to 1010. In 1990, CFYQ's program feed changed from CJYQ to CKIX-FM and changed its call letters again to CKXD. CKIX-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting on 99.1 FM in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The station currently broadcasts a Top 40/CHR format branded as ''Hot 99.1''. The station is owned by Stingray Group. History Launched by CHUM Limited on October 15, 1983, CKIX-FM originally carried a country format known as ''Country 99 FM'' and then later in the 1980s as ''KIXX Country''. VOWR is a radio station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The station is operated by the Wesley United Church of Canada and operates a mix of 30% religious programming and 70% secular programming, including classical, folk, country, oldies, military/marching band, adult standards, beautiful music and music from the 1940s through the 1970s, interviews and informational programs. CKXX-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting from Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador on 103.9 MHz with a classic rock format branded on-air as ''97.5 K-Rock''. It is currently owned by Stingray Group. History CKXX-FM launched by the noted broadcaster Alex J. Walling on August 6, 1984 as CKWK at 1340 kHz. For the first year and a half of CKWK's existence, they tried many things to bring up listenership and broaden the appeal of its fledgling station. Many of these programs were quite successful. CJYQ is an AM radio station broadcasting at 930 kHz in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Owned by Stingray Group and airing a country format, the station is currently branded as ''New Country 930''. History The station was launched in 1950 as CJON and was owned by the Newfoundland Broadcasting Company (Geoff Stirling and Don Jamieson), which launched CJON-TV in 1955. The company later launched additional AM stations throughout the province. In 1978, Jamieson transferred his interest in Newfoundland Broadcasting to Stirling in exchange for the AM stations. Derek and the Dominos was an English–American blues rock band formed in the spring of 1970 by guitarist and singer Eric Clapton, keyboardist and singer Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon. All four members had previously played together in Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, during and after Clapton's brief tenure with Blind Faith.
