VOCM (AM)
VOCM is an AM radio station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, broadcasting at 590 kHz. Owned by Stingray Group, VOCM first went on the air on October 19, 1936. Through the "VOCM/Big Land FM Radio Network" of stations owned by Stingray, VOCM programming is carried throughout the province. VOCM and its sister station VOCM-FM are among the four radio stations in Canada having call signs beginning with the prefix VO, the ITU prefix issued to the Dominion of Newfoundland before its confederation into Canada in 1949. The other two, VOWR and VOAR-FM, also broadcast in St. John's; all but VOCM-FM predate the confederation. VOWR
VOWR is a radio station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The station is operated by the Wesley United Church of Canada and operates a mix of 30% religious programming and 70% secular programming, including classical, folk, country, oldies, military/marching band, adult standards, beautiful music and music from the 1940s through the 1970s, interviews and informational programs. VOWR has several information based programs that are of interest to its core demographic including Consumer Reports, a gardening show, the 50+ Radio Show and many others of a wide range of subjects. The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is a political party in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Mount Pearl is the third-largest settlement and second-largest city in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Clarenville
Clarenville is a town on the east coast of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Clarenville was incorporated in 1951. It is located in the Shoal Harbour valley, fronting an arm of the Atlantic Ocean called Random Sound. The town grew in importance after it became a junction on the Newfoundland Railway, where a branch line to the Bonavista Peninsula left the main line. CKVO is an AM radio station in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, broadcasting at 710 kHz. Owned by Stingray Group, CKVO first went on the air in 1974. It is an affiliate of VOCM. History Colonial Broadcasting System Ltd. was awarded a license in 1974 for a new AM station at Clarenville operating at 710 kHz with 10,000 watts day and night. In 1975, CKVO opened as a semi-satellite of VOCM in St. John's.
