United Methodist Church in Norway ( no, Metodistkirken i Norge) is an annual meeting of the United Methodist Church covering Norway. It consists of 46 congregations and had 10,684 members in 2014. Norway's first Methodist was Ole Peter Petersen, past of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He moved to Fredrikstad in 1849, resulting in the first congregations, Sarpsborg and Halden, being established in 1856. At first concentrated around the Oslofjord, the Methodist Church experienced a major expansion during the 1870 through 1890. Thereafter it entered a consolidation phase, especially related to diaconal activities. From the 1900s growth was hindered through the popularity of Pentecostalism. Jerusalem Church, Copenhagen
Jerusalem's Church is the main church of the Methodist community in Denmark. The church building is located in Rigensgade, central Copenhagen. The church was founded by missionaries in 1859, while the current building was opened in 1915 (replacing a destroyed building which dated to 1866). History The first Methodist congregation in Denmark was founded on 11 January 1859 and was based in rented rooms in Store Kongensgade. The congregation grew rapidly and funds were raised for a new church which was completed in 1866 to designs by Ferdinand Vilhelm Jensen. Furnes, Norway
Furnes is a village in Ringsaker Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located just west of the European route E6 highway, about from the town of Hamar to the southeast and the same distance from Brumunddal to the norhtwest. Furnes Church is located in the village. It was built in 1707 using some of the stone from the Cathedral Ruins in Hamar. This village was the administrative centre of the old Furnes Municipality that existed from 1891 until 1964. Name The village is named Furnes ( non, Furnes). Eidsberg
Eidsberg was a municipality in Østfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality was the town of Mysen. In 2020, Eidsberg was absorbed into the Indre Østfold municipality. Eidsberg was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The town of Mysen was separated from Eidsberg to form a municipality of its own on 1 July 1920, but it was merged back into the municipality of Eidsberg on 1 January 1961. Høland
Høland is a former municipality in Akershus county, Norway. History Høland was created in 1837 as a formannskapsdistrikt, a Norwegian local self-government district. The district Setskog was separated from Høland to form a separate municipality January 1, 1905. The split left Høland with 4,928 inhabitants. Høland municipality existed until 1 July 1924, when it was split to form the two new municipalities of Nordre Høland and Søndre Høland. Before the partition Høland had a population of 5,294. Østfold
Østfold is a traditional region, a former county and a current electoral district in southeastern Norway. It borders Akershus and southwestern Sweden (Västra Götaland County and Värmland), while Buskerud and Vestfold are on the other side of Oslofjord. The county's administrative seat was Sarpsborg. Porsgrunn
is a city and municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Grenland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Porsgrunn. The municipality of Porsgrunn was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The town of Brevik and the rural district of Eidanger were merged into the municipality of Porsgrunn on 1 January 1964. Grenland
Grenland is a traditional district in the county of Vestfold og Telemark, in the south-east of Norway. Located in the southeastern part of the county, Grenland is composed of the municipalities Skien, Porsgrunn, Bamble, and Siljan. Sometimes the municipalities Kragerø and Drangedal of the smaller Vestmar region are also considered to be part of the area.
