Furnes, Norway
Furnes is a village in Ringsaker Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located just west of the European route E6 highway, about from the town of Hamar to the southeast and the same distance from Brumunddal to the norhtwest. Furnes Church is located in the village. It was built in 1707 using some of the stone from the Cathedral Ruins in Hamar. This village was the administrative centre of the old Furnes Municipality that existed from 1891 until 1964. Name The village is named Furnes ( non, Furnes). The meaning of the first element is unknown. It is possible that the first part came from the old name of a local river such as ''Fura'' or it could be derived from the word ''furu'' which means "pine". The last element is ''nes'' which means " headland". Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. Ringsaker
is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Hedemarken. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Brumunddal. Other settlements in Ringsaker include the town of Moelv and the villages of Furnes, Kvål, Kylstad, Mesnali, Nydal, Rudshøgda, Stavsjø, Tingnes, and Byflaten. Ole Rømer Aagaard Sandberg
Ole Rømer Aagaard Sandberg (21 July 1900 – 26 August 1985) was a Norwegian farmer and politician for the Centre Party. He chaired the Norwegian Agrarian Association from 1951 to 1955 and was a member of Parliament from 1957 to 1965. Olav Larssen
Olav Larssen (10 July 1894 – 5 July 1981) was a Norwegian newspaper editor and politician for the Labour and Communist parties. Personal life Olav Larssen was born in Furnes as a son of baker Kristian Larssen and Lovise Wahlum (1873–1923). He attended primary school in rural Furnes, but then moved to the nearby city Hamar to take apprenticeship as a typographer. By 1910 he dwelled as a tenant in ''Østregate 55'' in the neighborhood Østbyen, nearby Hamar Station. He recalled having to adapt to the city culture, and shed some of his childhood dialect/sociolect. In 1917 he married taylor's daughter Aslaug Rustad (1892–1987). She hailed from Hamar and was the oldest girl of ten siblings. After her mother's death when she was fourteen, she had to abandon plans to become a hairdresser to help her father with tending to their family. Erik Kristiansen (born 12 March 1961 in Furnes, Norway) is a former Norwegian ice hockey player. Playing career He played 20 seasons with the Storhamar Dragons of Hamar, Norway. Alf Frydenberg
Alf Birger Frydenberg (2 May 1896 – 14 May 1989) was a Norwegian civil servant. He was born in Furnes as a son of Bernt Frydenberg (1868–1925) and Benedicte Charlotte Christiansen (1872–1953). In 1931 he married Major's daughter Marie Catharina Knap. He studied from 1917 and graduated from the Royal Frederick University with the cand.jur. degree in 1921. Ole Ellefsæter
Ole Martin Ellefsæter (15 February 1939 – 18 October 2022) was a Norwegian athlete. He mostly competed in cross-country skiing, and won two gold medals at the 1968 Winter Olympics. At the 1966 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships he won one gold (4 × 10 km relay) and one silver (15 km) medal, and in 1971 he became the first Norwegian to win Vasaloppet. Competing in the 3000 metres steeplechase, he won six national championships in a row, from 1960 to 1965. For his accomplishments in both sports, he was awarded Egebergs Ærespris. Ellefsæter also had a singing career, and had two hit songs in Norway. Skiing career Ellefsæter won the Birkebeinerrennet in 1961. Jon Balke
Jon Georg Balke (born 7 June 1955) is a Norwegian jazz pianist who leads the Magnetic North Orchestra. He is the younger brother of saxophonist Erik Balke. Career Balke started playing classical piano but switched to blues at 12, though he performs within several genres. At the age of 18 he joined Arild Andersen's quartet. By the mid-1980s he worked on his own and would become one of Norway's leading jazz composers. He was active in the groups of Radka Toneff and in the Afrofusion group E'olén before joining Oslo 13 and Masqualero in the early 1980s. From 1989 he focused on his own projects, such as JøKleBa (with Audun Kleive and Per Jørgensen) and the Magnetic North Orchestra for which he composed the commissioned work ''Il Cenoneat'' to Vossajazz 1992.
