State Route 99 (SR-99) is a state highway in the US state of Utah providing a business loop around I-15 for the town of Fillmore in the central portion of the state. The route is the main street for the town and spans . The highway was established 1969 as I-15 was constructed through the area, replacing US-91. Route description The highway begins at a diamond interchange on I-15 at exit 163 heading southeast. Immediately past the interchange, the road turns northeast outside of Fillmore. Approaching the south city limits, the route turns east and becomes 500 South. In the south-central part of town, the road turns north onto Main Street and widens to four lanes at this point. Before intersecting at SR-100, the road loses two lanes at 300 North. Fillmore is a city and the county seat of Millard County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,435 at the 2010 United States Census. It is named for the thirteenth US President Millard Fillmore, who was in office when Millard County was created by the Utah Territorial legislature. Fillmore was the capital of the Utah Territory from 1851 to 1856, although the territorial legislature met in Fillmore only one term (1855). Diamond Interchange
A diamond interchange is a common type of road junction, used where a controlled-access highway crosses a minor road. Design The freeway itself is grade-separated from the minor road, one crossing the other over a bridge. Approaching the interchange from either direction, an off-ramp diverges only slightly from the freeway and runs directly across the minor road, becoming an on-ramp that returns to the freeway in similar fashion. Located entirely in Millard County, it connects the city of Fillmore with Flowell and the ghost town of McCornick over a distance of . Millard County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 12,503. Its county seat is Fillmore, and the largest city is Delta. History The Utah Territory legislature created the county on October 4, 1851, with territory not previously covered by county creations and including some area in the future state of Nevada. The Topaz War Relocation Center, also known as the Central Utah Relocation Center (Topaz) and briefly as the Abraham Relocation Center, was an American concentration camp which housed Americans of Japanese descent and immigrants who had come to the United States from Japan, called '' Nikkei''. President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 in February 1942, ordering people of Japanese ancestry to be incarcerated in what were euphemistically called "relocation centers" like Topaz during World War II.
