Ust-Luga (port)
Ust-Luga (russian: Усть-Луга, Votian: ''Laugasuu'', both meaning "mouth of the Luga", fi, Laukaansuu, izh, Laukaansuu) is a settlement and railway station in Kingiseppsky District of Leningrad Oblast, Russia, near the Estonian border, situated on the Luga River near its entry into the Luga Bay of the Gulf of Finland, about west of St. Petersburg. Port of Ust-Luga and multimodal complex Ust-Luga is the site of an important coal and fertiliser terminal, constructed at a cost of $2.1 billion. Construction works started in 1997, in part to avoid dry cargo shipments through the Baltic States, and were accelerated at the urging of President Vladimir Putin, who inaugurated the new port facilities in 2001. The 3,700-metre approach canal is deep and capable of accommodating ships with a capacity of 150,000 tonnes and more. Ports Of The Baltic Sea
There are over 200 ports in the Baltic Sea (or 190, when only those ports that handle a minimum of 50,000 tonnes of cargo annually and where at least part of this cargo is international are taken into account). In 2008, the total amount of cargo handled in the Baltic Sea ports amounted to 822.4 million tonnes, which was 0.4 per cent less than in 2007. Primorsk, Saint Petersburg and Ust-Luga were the biggest ports in the Baltic Sea in 2008. Together the three top ports handled over one fifth of total cargo volumes in the Baltic Sea in 2008. Yuzhno-Tambeyskoye Gas Field
The South-Tambeyskoye gas field is a natural gas field located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. It was discovered in 1974. The field is operated by Yamal LNG, controlled by Novatek. It produces natural gas and condensates. The field was discovered in 1974 and it began production in 1976. In 1990s–2000s, until 2005, the license belonged to Tambeyneftegaz, controlled by Nikolay Bogachyov. In 2005, the license was reassigned to Yamal LNG. Novatek took control of Yamal LNG in 2009. Baltic LNG
Baltic LNG is a liquefied natural gas plant under construction on the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea in Ust-Luga, Leningrad Oblast, Russia. The plant's capacity would be 13 million tons of LNG per year. The planned launch date has changed many times, and according to the latest plans, the first line will start operating in 2024 and the second line in 2025. The cost of the project is estimated at 2.4 trillion rubles. On October 7, 2021, it was announced that the LNG plant might be expanded to three lines. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas (predominantly methane, CH4, with some mixture of ethane, C2H6) that has been cooled down to liquid form for ease and safety of non-pressurized storage or transport. It takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state (at standard conditions for temperature and pressure). LNG is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive. Hazards include flammability after vaporization into a gaseous state, freezing and asphyxia. The liquefaction process involves removal of certain components, such as dust, acid gases, helium, water, and heavy hydrocarbons, which could cause difficulty downstream. National Container Company (NCC, russian: Национальная контейнерная компания) was one of the biggest container operators in Russia and the CIS countries in the 2000s. The company was founded in 2002. Its container terminals were mainly based in the Baltic Sea. In 2012, the total capacity of the company’s maritime container ports was nearly 1.069 million TEUs.
