Uribarri (Aramaio)
Uribarri is the second district of the city of Bilbao (Biscay), in the Spanish Basque Country. It is divided into the neighbourhoods of Castaños, Matico-Ciudad Jardín, Uríbarri proper and Zurbaran-Arabella. It has an area of 4.19 square kilometers and a population of 36,181 inhabitants. History For many years it was a rural area full of farms, belonging to the former parish of Begoña, as a result many street names in the district are former names of farms, like ''Trauko''. This district includes the quarter of La Salve, of historical importance for Bilbao as it was a traditional point for sailors returning to the city. The area close to the Estuary of Bilbao was urbanized in the late 19th century, when the ''Paseo del Campo Volantin'' boulevard was created, lined with mansions of Bilbao's bourgeoisie. The higher lands away from the estuary were urbanized in the 1960s, with high density buildings for working classes. Places of interest *Bilbao City Hall *Zubizuri brid ...

Zubizuri
The Zubizuri (Basque for "''white bridge''"), also called the Campo Volantin Bridge or Puente del Campo Volantin, is a tied arch footbridge across the Nervion River in Bilbao, Spain. Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, the bridge links the ''Campo Volantin'' right bank and ''Uribitarte'' left bank of the river. Description Opened in 1997, the bridge's unusual design consists of a curved walkway which is supported by steel suspension cables from an overhead arch. The structure of the bridge is painted white and the bridge deck consists of translucent glass bricks. Access ramps and stairways are located on both banks. The Zubizuri offers pedestrians a convenient route from hotels to the nearby Bilbao Guggenheim Museum. Criticism Published criticism Since its opening, it has been subjected to praise as a symbol of the new Bilbao and as a draw for tourism. Bilbao City Hall
The City Hall of the borough of Bilbao, Spain, is located on the right bank of the Estuary of Bilbao across the Puente del Ayuntamiento bascule bridge that links it to the central Abando district. The building was built in 1892 by Joaquín Rucoba, on the former site of a convent in the district of Uribarri. It was built in Baroque style. One of the highlights of the building is the Arab Hall, a richly decorated hall in the Neo-Mudéjar style that resembles the decorations found in the Alhambra of Granada. The hall is used for official receptions and weddings. Before 1890, the Bilbao City Council was located in a building inside the Old Town In a city or town, the old town is its historic or original core. Estuary Of Bilbao
The Estuary of Bilbao (Spanish: ''Ría de Bilbao'' / Basque: ''Bilboko Itsasadarra'') lies at the common mouth of the rivers Nervion, Ibaizabal and Cadagua, which drain most of Biscay and part of Alava in the Basque Country, Spain. In this instance, the Spanish word estuario is used to describe what in English would normally be called part estuary, part tidal river. The estuary becomes a tidal river which extends into the city of Bilbao, starting from the Bilbao Abra bay. It hosts the port of Bilbao throughout its length, although the Port Authority has recently restored most of the upper reaches to Bilbao and other municipalities for their urban regeneration. The port is now being transferred to the seaboard on the coast at Santurtzi and Zierbena. Downstream from Bilbao the river divides its metropolitan area in its left bank (Barakaldo, Sestao, Portugalete and Santurtzi) and right bank (Erandio, Leioa and Getxo). The recovery of the estuary The estuary and tidal river of B ...

La Salve
''The red arc'' from Daniel Buren, which supports ''La Salve''. La Salve is a quarter in the 2nd district of the city of Bilbao, Spain. It gains its name from the fact that sailors, returning from sea, would first see the tower of the Basilica of Begoña at this point as ships returned up the river Nervión, which runs through the city. According to folklore, they would start praying to the Virgin Begoña, the patron saint of the region, thanking her for protecting them during their time at sea. Today, the main landmark of the area is La Salve Bridge, popular name for the ''Princes of Spain'' cable-stayed bridge, built in the 1970s to provide a northern access over the river to the city. This bridge gained popularity when the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, and located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. Begoña
Begoña or more puristically but also more rarely spelled ''Begoina'', meaning 'the lower foot' (of Mount Artxanda), is a historical municipality of Biscay ( Basque Country, Spain) which was incorporated into Bilbao in 1925. Originally it included all the uplands south and east of the medieval walled town, which now form the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and parts of the 5th urban districts of Bilbao. Nowadays the name is limited to the district including Santutxu, Bolueta and ''Begoña'' proper, a small residential neighbourhood between the Basilica of Begoña and the garden area of Etxebarria Park. A notable person with this given name is Begoña Gómez Martín, a Spanish Olympic judoka. Due to its association with a church dedicated to Our Lady of Begoña The cult of Our Lady of Begoña (''Nuestra Señora de Begoña, la Madre de Dios de Begoña'') celebrates an apparition of the Virgin Mary at the site of the Basilica of Begoña, in Bilbao, Spain.
