Upper Douglas Cable Tramway
The Upper Douglas Cable Tramway ( Manx: ''Raad Yiarn Caabyl Ghoolish Heose'') was a tram line serving all points between the southern end of the promenade and the upper part of the town of Douglas in the Isle of Man.See Pearson, F. History Douglas Corporation, the local authority responsible for the town, persuaded the Isle of Man Tramways & Electric Power Company to build a line serving the hilly area of Upper Douglas in return for an extended franchise to operate the horse tramway. Manx ( or , pronounced or ), also known as Manx Gaelic, is a Gaelic language of the insular Celtic branch of the Celtic language family, itself a branch of the Indo-European language family. Manx is the historical language of the Manx people. Although only few children native to the Isle of Man speak Manx as a first language, there has been a steady increase in the number of speakers since the death of Ned Maddrell in 1974. He was considered to be the last speaker to grow up in a Manx-speaking community environment. Douglas Bay Horse Tramway
The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway ( gv, Raad Yiarn Cabbyl Vaie Ghoolish) on the Isle of Man runs along the seafront promenade for approximately , from the southern terminus at the Victoria Pier, adjacent to the Isle of Man Sea Terminal, to Derby Castle station, the southern terminus of the Manx Electric Railway, where the workshops and sheds are located. G. F. Milnes & Co. Ltd was a tramcar manufacturer based in Birkenhead (1886–1902) and Hadley, Shropshire (1900–1905) Starbuck Car and Wagon Company George Starbuck established the first tramcar manufacturing business in Britain at 227 Cleveland Street, Birkenhead. It was incorporated as George Starbuck and Company on 12 September 1871. It was re-registered one year later as Starbuck Car and Wagon Company Ltd., on 6 November 1872. The Jurby Transport Museum ( gv, Thie Tashtee Arraghey Yurby) is a transport museum in Jurby on the Isle of Man occupying a former aircraft hangar. The museum is operated by a group of volunteers who are members of the Manx Transport Trust. Entrance is free but donations are welcome. The museum receives no public funding and relies on donations to aid its running costs History The museum was prepared by a group of volunteers prior to its opening.
