Unmitigated Audacity
''Beat the Boots!'' is a box set by Frank Zappa. Released in 1991 through Rhino Entertainment, the set contains legal reissues of eight bootleg recordings made between 1967 and 1982 and originally distributed illegally prior to this official release. A second box set of bootleg recordings, '' Beat the Boots! II'', was released through Rhino in June 1992. Contents ''Beat the Boots!'' was released so that Zappa could reclaim financial and legal ownership of the recordings. By reproducing the exact contents and artwork of bootleg albums without any alterations, Zappa could claim any further reproduction of the recordings as a counterfeit, which would make further unauthorized distribution of his music easier to prosecute. The box set was released in limited vinyl record and cassette tape runs, and the titles were also released as individual compact discs by Rhino Entertainment. A box set or (its original name) boxed set is a set of items (for example, a compilation of books, musical recordings, films or television programs) traditionally packaged in a box and offered for sale as a single unit. These often include rare and never-before-released tracks. "Cosmik Debris" is a song by American composer Frank Zappa, from his 1974 album ''Apostrophe (')''. It concerns the Mystery Man, a typical guru or psychic, offering to help the narrator reach Nervanna icfor a "nominal service charge," and the narrator's refusal to buy into his act, "Look here, brother, who you jiving with that cosmik debris?" When the Mystery Man gets pushy, Zappa as the narrator tells how he snatched the crystal ball, hypnotized the Mystery Man, stole his stuff and blew his mind. "Camarillo Brillo" is a song by Frank Zappa and The Mothers and was first included on his 1973 LP ''Over-Nite Sensation''. The song's lyrics include many colloquialisms and made-up words. The title itself is a pun; Zappa mispronounces Camarillo, the name of a city in California, to rhyme with brillo, "shining" or "brilliant" in Spanish. "Camarillo Brillo" is in the key of E major, though the key briefly changes to D major during the chorus. The arrangement includes liberal use of brass instruments and a wide range of percussion techniques. It ends with a short coda played on piano. There are two versions of this song, the first being in a slower tempo and the second being a much shorter up tempo version played later in Frank Zappa's career.
