University Avenue (Edmonton)
University Avenue is a discontinuous street in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, partially an arterial road and partially a residential street. It was established in the 19th century along the south edge of a series of farm lots west of the yet-to-be-incorporated town of Strathcona, causing it to run parallel with the North Saskatchewan River to the north. The farm lots later became the University of Alberta campus, which was established in 1908. In the mid 20th century, University Avenue was permanently segmented as part of traffic calming measures, including disconnecting the eastern section with 114 Street, extending Joe Morris Park, and extending the grounds of Our Lady of Mount Carmel school. The westernmost section of University Avenue is part of a continuous roadway that runs through Sherwood Park, Edmonton, and St. Albert that includes Wye Road, Sherwood Park Freeway, Whyte Avenue, portions of Saskatchewan Drive, Groat Road, and St. Albert Trail. University Avenue (Windsor, Ontario)
The road network in Windsor, Ontario is a grid system with elongated blocks, generally aligned with the Detroit River, with East-West roads running parallel to it, and North-South streets running perpendicular (90 Degrees) to it. This is an adoption from when French Canadian settlers first built farms and streets in the area. Many streets have French names in result, such as Lauzon Parkway, Marentette Avenue (a quiet residential street), Ouellette Avenue (considered by many Windsorites to be its " Main Street"), and Pelissier Street. The current street system of Windsor (grid with elongated blocks) reflects the French method of agricultural land division where the farms were long and narrow, fronting along the river (this originates from French methods of tax collection, with more taxes being paid by property owners with waterfront properties, thus why riverfront lots were usually narrow). Introduction Most of the city is uniform in its grid, but a few neighbourhoods have th ...

University Avenue (Minneapolis–Saint Paul)
University Avenue is a street that runs through both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. It begins near the Minnesota State Capitol in Saint Paul and extends westward into neighboring Minneapolis, where it passes the University of Minnesota, and then turns north to pass through several suburbs before its main portion ends in Blaine, Minnesota, although there are stretches of road designated as University Avenue that are north of the Blaine terminus, the final stretch ending near Andree, Minnesota. For many years, the road carried U.S. Highway 12 and U.S. Highway 52 (at least for part of its length), and University Avenue is still a significant thoroughfare in the area. University Avenue originally ran along a line several blocks north of its current location, forming a route that once connected the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota to Hamline University in Saint Paul (hence the name).Empson, Donald L.
