United Confectioners
United Confectioners (russian: Объединённые кондитеры, Obedinyonnye konditery) is a Russian confectionery holding. Through its subsidiaries it produces chocolate bars, cakes, cookies and candies. The holding owns brands such as Krasny Oktyabr (confectionery brand), Krasny Oktyabr, Rot Front (confectionery brand), Rot Front and Babayevsky (company), Babayevsky. The company employed 17,000 people in 2013. As of 2015 it was the 13th largest confectionery company worldwide, with sales of $2.2 billion. Until 2011 the company was partly owned by the city of Moscow, and it is currently part of the GUTA Group. In 2016 the company had a 20% share of the Russian confectionery market. In 2014 the company's products were removed from retail in Ukraine, in retaliation against similar actions taken against the Ukrainian confectioner Roshen. OJSC Krasny Oktyabr (russian: ОАО "Красный Октябрь", "Red October") is a Russian confectionery manufacturer and a member of the United Confectioners holding company. Its parent company was 17th in the list of the largest candy companies in the world, with sales amounting to $1.196 billion. History The company was founded by the German Theodor Ferdinand von Einem. Von Einem sold his stake in the enterprise to German Julius Heuss, who became its director in 1878, retaining the position until his death in 1907. In 1896, the Einem factory won a gold medal at the All-Russia Exhibition 1896, All-Russian Industrial and Artistic Exhibition, and it was allowed to supply confectionery to the court of the tsar. Rot Front Open Joint-Stock Company () is one of the oldest Russian confectionery manufacturers and a member of United Confectioners holding company. Rot Front produces over 200 types of confectionery and sells in all Russian regions, CIS countries, Western Europe, North America and the Middle East. Early History Founded in 1826 by the Lenov merchants as a home family confectionery workshop for the production of caramel, the workshop was located in the area of old Moscow - in Zamoskvorechye, on Malaya Bolvanovka street (2nd Novokuznetskiy lane) next to the Church of the Savior on Bolvany. OAO Konditerskiy Kontsern Babayevskiy Open Joint-Stock Company (russian: Открытое акционерное общество "Кондитерский концерн Бабаевский") is the oldest Russian confectionery manufacturer and a member of United Confectioners holding company. It is located in Moscow (Malaya Krasnoselskaya St., 7). History The factory conducts history since 1804 as a family workshop of the confectioners Abrikosovy. In 1918 it was nationalized. Its current name was received only in 1922 in honor of Peter Akimovich Babayev, chairman of the Sokolniki District Executive Committee. In 1993 it was privatized. In 2002, after the bankruptcy of Inkombank, the controlling interest in the concern was sold to the Amidis LLC for 800 million rubles.
