Undan Island
Undan Island ("Pelican Island", ms, Pulau Undan) is a group of two uninhabited islets located off the coast of Malacca in Malaysia. The larger islet houses a lighthouse built in 1880 by the British and a communication tower made of concrete, both forbidden to the public. It is connected to the smaller islet, which is accessible by foot during low tide, by a tombolo. The islet is surrounded by a variety of corals, rocks and sandy beaches and is solely reachable by boat. People mainly visit there for activities like camping, fishing, hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming. The local government in Malaysia is the lowest tier of government in Malaysia administered under the states and federal territories which in turn are beneath the federal tier. Melaka Tengah District (Central Malacca) is one of the 4 administrative districts in Malacca, Malaysia. It borders Masjid Tanah District to the north-west, Alor Gajah District to the north and Jasin District to the east. The capital of the state, Malacca City, is located in this district. Malacca
Malacca ( ms, Melaka) is a state in Malaysia located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, next to the Strait of Malacca. Its capital is Malacca City, dubbed the Historic City, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008. Undan Island Lighthouse
Undan Island Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the summit of the uninhabited islet of Undan Island, located off the coast of mainland Malacca in Malaysia. The lighthouse was engineered and constructed by the Chance Brothers and Company from Birmingham in 1879 and completed in 1880, as a beacon for ships travelling along the Strait of Malacca. It is octagonal and cylindrical in shape, housing the lantern and a gallery and is adjoined to a single storey keeper's house; both structures were constructed of masonry. A more recent concrete communications tower, roughly three times the height of the original lighthouse, is cylindrical and stark in design, and situated directly beside the lighthouse. Tombolo
A tombolo is a sandy or shingle isthmus. A tombolo, from the Italian ', meaning 'pillow' or 'cushion', and sometimes translated incorrectly as ''ayre'' (an ayre is a shingle beach of any kind), is a deposition landform by which an island becomes attached to the mainland by a narrow piece of land such as a spit or bar. Once attached, the island is then known as a tied island. Several islands tied together by bars which rise above the water level are called a tombolo cluster. Two or more tombolos may form an enclosure (called a lagoon) that can eventually fill with sediment.
