Umutara
Until January 2006, Umutara Province was one of the 12 provinces (''intara'') of Rwanda. However, due to local government reorganization, this area is now part of the new larger Eastern Province. The old province was situated in the north-east of the country, bordering Uganda to the north and Tanzania to the east. Within Rwanda it borders Kibungo to the south and Byumba to the west. The province was made up of districts and 81 Sectors, with its capital at Nyagatare. Umutara was formed as a prefecture in 1996 from parts of Byumba and Kibungo. Umutara had an area of 4,250 square kilometers, most of which is grasslands. The population in 2005 was 421,600. Umutara Polytechnic
Umutara Polytechnic (UP) was a higher education institution in Rwanda. Founded in 2004, was located in the city of Nyagatare, capital of Nyagatare district in Eastern Province, Rwanda. UP started its first academic year on 2 May 2006 with 265 students and 16 staff. Provinces Of Rwanda
The provinces of Rwanda (Kinyarwanda: ''intara'') are divided into Districts of Rwanda, districts (''akarere'') and municipalities (''umujyi''). Prior to January 1, 2006, Rwanda was composed of 12 provinces. The Politics of Rwanda, Rwandan government decided to establish new provinces in an attempt to address issues that arose from the Rwandan genocide. The new provinces were to be "ethnically-diverse administrative areas". Until 2002, the provinces were called prefectures (''perefegitura''). Eastern Province, Rwanda
Eastern Province ( rw, Intara y'Iburasirazuba; french: Province de l'Est; nl, Oostelijke Provincie) is the largest, the most populous and the least densely populated of Rwanda's five provinces. It was created in early January 2006 as part of a government decentralization program that re-organized the country's local government structures. It has seven districts: Bugesera, Gatsibo, Kayonza, Ngoma, Kirehe, Nyagatare and Rwamagana. The capital city of the Eastern Province is Rwamagana. Nyagatare is a town in the North East of Rwanda. With a population of more than 100,000, it is one of the most populous settlements in the Eastern Province along with Rwamagana and Kibungo. Kibungo
Kibungo is a town in the Republic of Rwanda. It is the political, administrative and commercial capital of Ngoma District. In 1998, Kibungo became the site of at least four of Rwanda's last 22 executions. All of the convicts were executed for crimes related to the 1994 genocide. A grassland is an area where the vegetation is dominated by grasses (Poaceae).
