U.S. Route 24 Business (Pontiac, Michigan)
US Highway 24 (US 24) is a United States Numbered Highway that runs from Minturn, Colorado, to Independence Township, Michigan, Independence Township, Michigan. In Michigan, it is also known as Telegraph Road and runs for as a major north–south Michigan State Trunkline Highway System, state trunkline highway from Bedford Township, Monroe County, Michigan, Bedford Township at the Ohio state line through Metro Detroit. The highway runs through three counties in southeastern Michigan, Monroe County, Michigan, Monroe, Wayne County, Michigan, Wayne and Oakland County, Michigan, Oakland, as it parallels the Lake Erie shoreline and bypasses Metro Detroit on the west. A business route (or business loop, business spur, or city route) in the United States is a short special route connected to a ''parent'' numbered highway at its beginning, then routed through the central business district of a nearby city or town, and finally reconnecting with the same ''parent'' numbered highway again at its end. Naming Business routes always have the same number as the routes they parallel. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Gibraltar, Michigan
Gibraltar is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,656 at the 2010 census. Gibraltar is a southern city of Metro Detroit and is about south of the city of Detroit. The city is bordered by the Detroit River to the east, the city of Trenton to the north, and the township of Brownstown to the south and west. History Gibraltar was first settled as early as 1811 and later platted on March 14, 1837, by trustees of the Gibralter & Flat Rock Company. An official alternate route is a special route in the United States that provides an alternate alignment for a highway. They are loop roads and found in many road systems in the United States including the U.S. Highway system and various state and county route systems. Alternate routes were created as a means of connecting a town (or towns) desired to be on a route that had been routed differently to put another important town or city on the route, or, in the case of the U.S. Highway system, as a means to eliminate divided routes.
