Tylopilus Plumbeoviolaceus
''Tylopilus plumbeoviolaceus'' (formerly ''Boletus plumbeoviolaceus''), common name, commonly known as the violet-grey bolete, is a fungus of the Boletaceae, bolete family. First described in 1936, the mushroom has a disjunct distribution, and is distributed in eastern North America and Korea. The basidiocarp, fruit bodies of the fungus are violet when young, but fade into a chocolate brown color when mature. They are solid and relatively large—pileus (mycology), cap diameter up to , with a white pore surface that later turns pink, and a white mycelium at the base of the stipe (mycology), stem. The mushroom is inedible. A number of natural products have been identified from the fruit bodies, including unique chemical derivatives of ergosterol, a fungal sterol. Strouds Run State Park is a public recreation area abutting the city of Athens in Athens County, Ohio, in the United States. The state park is located primarily in Canaan Township, with a small part in Ames Township. Park boundaries coincide with Athens city limits in several places. The park comprises , and includes Dow Lake, a artificial lake. The park is named after William Stroud who was a share-holder in the Ohio Company of Associates. Black Rock Forest
Black Rock Forest is a forest and biological field station maintained by Black Rock Forest Consortium. It is located in the western Hudson Highlands region of the U.S. state of New York, in Orange County, mostly in the town of Cornwall, with the southern fringe overlapping into the neighboring town of Highlands. Established by a local resident in 1928, the forest was the property of Harvard University until 1989. ''Tylopilus'' is a genus of over 100 species of mycorrhizal bolete fungi separated from ''Boletus''. Its best known member is the bitter bolete (''Tylopilus felleus''), the only species found in Europe. More species are found in North America, such as the edible species '' T. alboater''. Australia is another continent where many species are found. All members of the genus form mycorrhizal relationships with trees. Members of the genus are distinguished by their pinkish pore surfaces. Taxonomy The genus was first defined by Petter Adolf Karsten in 1881. The type species, ''Tylopilus felleus'', was originally described in 1788 as a species of ''Boletus'' by French mycologist Pierre Bulliard. Rolf Singer (June 23, 1906 – January 18, 1994) was a Germany, German-born mycologist and one of the most important Taxonomy (biology), taxonomists of gilled mushrooms (agarics) in the 20th century. After receiving his Ph.D. at the University of Vienna in 1931 he worked in Munich. By 1933, however, Singer left Germany for Vienna due to the political deterioration in Germany. There he met his wife, Martha Singer. From Vienna, Singer and his wife went to Barcelona, Spain, where Singer was appointed assistant professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
