Turon De Néouvielle
The Turon du Néouvielle is a summit in the French Pyrenees, culminating at 3,035 m, located in the Néouvielle massif, Néouvielle Range, on the edge of the Pyrenees National Park. It is famous for having the first recorded ascent of a Pyrenees peak over 3,000 metres. History In 1787, on the second of August, Jean-Joseph Vidal, an astronomer from Mirepoix, Ariège, Mirepoix, and the chemist Henri Reboul from Toulouse, who was studying the snowmass in the Pyrenees, made the first recorded ascent. They gave their names to the rocky ridge which extends from the crest of Turon towards lac de Cap-de-Long, Cap-de-Long Lake. Access The peak is easily accessible from Barèges, going past the alpine "hut" of ''Refuge de la Glère'', by Lake Glère. Mirepoix, Ariège
Mirepoix (; oc, Mirapeis, supposedly from ''mire peis'', meaning ''see the fish'') is a commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France. Geography Mirepoix is situated in the Hers valley between Carcassonne and Pamiers. History Mirepoix was captured in 1209 by Simon V de Montfort and given to one of his lieutenants, Guy de Lévis. This list contains all of the Pyrenean three-thousanders, namely the 129 mountain summits of or more above sea level in the Pyrenees, a range of mountains in southwest Europe that forms a natural border between France and Spain. The Pyrenees separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about from the Bay of Biscay (Cap Higuer) to the Mediterranean Sea ( Cap de Creus). The highest mountain in the Pyrenees is Aneto in Spain at . The summits meeting the 3,000-metre criterion were defined by a UIAA-sponsored joint Franco-Spanish team led by Juan Buyse.
