List Of Pyrenean Three-thousanders
This list contains all of the Pyrenean three-thousanders, namely the 129 mountain summits of or more above sea level in the Pyrenees, a range of mountains in southwest Europe that forms a natural border between France and Spain. The Pyrenees separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about from the Bay of Biscay (Cap Higuer) to the Mediterranean Sea ( Cap de Creus). The highest mountain in the Pyrenees is Aneto in Spain at . The summits meeting the 3,000-metre criterion were defined by a UIAA-sponsored joint Franco-Spanish team led by Juan Buyse. The UIAA list, published in 1990, also contains 83 secondary summits in addition to the 129 principal ones listed here, and divides the range into 11 zones. According to the latest surveys, three of the peaks in the original list are actually below 3000m but are still included below. Pica D'Estats
Pica d'Estats (or ''The States Peak'') (Catalan: ''Pica d'Estats'', French: ''Pic d'Estats'') is a mountain in the Montcalm Massif, Pyrenees. on the Spanish– French border, and is the highest mountain in Catalonia. This mountain is included in the Parc Natural de l'Alt Pirineu. Summits The summit is located between the Catalan municipality of Alins in Pallars Sobirà and the French district of Ariège. It comprises three peaks, all lying close to each other: * Central peak (3,143 m). * Western peak, or Pic de Verdaguer, (3,131 m) * Eastern peak, or Punta Gabarró, (3,115 m) This eastern peak is the geodesic vertex. Grande Fache
La Grande Fache, Gran Facha or Cuspide de Bachimaña is a summit in the Pyrenees, culminating at 3,005 m, situated on the French-Spanish border and on the pyrenean watershed. Topography It rises at the centre of the cirques of Marcadau, Piedrafita and Bachimaña, and is surrounded by many lakes or Ibóns. Given its high altitude and pyramidal form, it is a well climbed summit. The Pyrenees (; es, Pirineos ; french: Pyrénées ; ca, Pirineu ; eu, Pirinioak ; oc, Pirenèus ; an, Pirineus) is a mountain range straddling the border of France and Spain. It extends nearly from its union with the Cantabrian Mountains to Cap de Creus on the Mediterranean coast. It reaches a maximum altitude of at the peak of Aneto. For the most part, the main crest forms a divide between Spain and France, with the microstate of Andorra sandwiched in between. Historically, the Crown of Aragon and the Kingdom of Navarre extended on both sides of the mountain range. Etymology In Greek mythology, Pyrene is a princess who gave her name to the Pyrenees.
