Trópico Telecomunicações Avançadas is a Brazilian company in the telecommunications sector founded in 1999. It is the result of a joint venture between Promon and the Centro de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento em Telecomunicações (CPqD) foundation and operates in the development of equipment for next-generation networks (NGN) and in the maintenance of technology developed by Telebrás. Its equipment is present in the networks of the largest telephone operators in Brazil, such as Telefônica BrasilRevista Exame, 24/10/2007, page 131 and Oi. Their good performance in extreme situations earned praise from the first operator. The company was mentioned in Exame Magazine as one of the companies that most managed to innovate in Brazil. In another survey carried out by Monitor Group and Exame, the Vectura Platform products (Softswitch and Signaling Server) produced by the company were listed among the 25 most innovative projects in Brazil. Campinas (, ''Plains'' or ''Meadows'') is a Brazilian municipality in São Paulo State, part of the country's Southeast Region. CPQD is a Research and Development Center in Telecommunications and one of the largest Latin American R&D centers in Telecommunications and IT. Located in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, CPQD has operated as a contractor for institutions and enterprises in a wide range of fields: telecommunications, finance, energy, industrial, corporate and public administration. Next-generation Network
The next-generation network (NGN) is a body of key architectural changes in telecommunication core and access networks. The general idea behind the NGN is that one network transports all information and services (voice, data, and all sorts of media such as video) by encapsulating these into IP packets, similar to those used on the Internet. NGNs are commonly built around the Internet Protocol, and therefore the term all IP is also sometimes used to describe the transformation of formerly telephone-centric networks toward NGN. Telebrás
Telebras is a Brazilian telecommunications company which was the state-owned monopoly telephone system. It was broken up in July 1998 into twelve separate companies, nicknamed the 'Baby Bras' companies, that were auctioned to private bidders. The new companies were the long distance operator Embratel, three fixed line regional telephony companies and eight cellular companies. It was re-established in 2010 according to Decree No. 7.175 that established the National Broadband Plan (PNBL), when then-President of Brazil, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva tasked it with managing a nationwide plan to expand broadband Internet access. Telefônica Brasil, trading as Vivo, is a Brazilian telecommunications group, subsidiary of Spanish Telefónica. It was originally formed as part of Telebrás, the state-owned telecom monopoly at the time. In 1998, Telebrás was demerged and privatized. Telefónica bought Telesp, the São Paulo division, and rebranded it to Telefónica. The group has a participation of 15% in its revenues in the world and currently the company has more than 90 million customers. In 2010, Telefónica acquired the shares of Vivo that belonged to Portugal Telecom, and transferred control of the company to Telefônica-Vivo, its subsidiary in Brazil. Oi (, Portuguese for "Hi"), formerly known as Telemar, is the largest fixed telephone operator and the fourth mobile telephone operator in Brazil, being the third largest telecommunication company in Latin America. It is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro. In 2013, Oi announced its merger with Portugal Telecom, the largest telecommunication company in Portugal, in order to strengthen the Brazilian firm and simplify its ownership structure. In June 2015 Portugal Telecom was acquired by Altice Group. On June 20, 2016, Oi filed for a 19 billion (65 billion) bankruptcy protection, the largest on record for Brazil.
