Tram Route 11 (Antwerp)
Tram route 11 is an above ground tram route in the city of Antwerp, Belgium. It currently runs between the Antwerpen-Berchem railway station and the Melkmarkt in the city centre. History Originally, the route was operated as a horse-drawn omnibus route running between the Grote Markt and the Zurenborg neighborhood. At the start of the 20th century, the line was electrified and extended to the Eksterlaar neighborhood. Until the end of 1964, route 11 operated between Antwerp-Central station and Eksterlaar. Beginning January 1, 1965, the route was extended to the Melkmarkt, after tram route 16 (Melkmarkt-Luchtbal) was canceled. During a part of the 1990s, trams on route 11 used the premetro network via the entrance at the Mercatorstraat, due to construction works at the Ommeganckstraat. The Antwerp tramway network ( nl, het Antwerpse tramnet) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Antwerp, a city in the Flemish Region of Belgium. The network is operated by the Flemish region's transportation company De Lijn. As of April 2017, it featured fourteen lines, eight of which pass partially underground (known as Antwerp Pre-metro). General description The Antwerp tram system features segments with different characteristics, from following along with street traffic to tunnels, which do not differ much from subway rail setup — track gauge and a 600 volts catenary power feed. Tram Route 10 (Antwerp)
Tram Route 10 (briefly Tram Route 11) is a tram route in Antwerp and nearby Wijnegem. Tram route 10 entered operation in 1873, making it one of the oldest tram routes still active in Antwerp, next to Tram route 4 (Antwerp), Tram Route 4 (Antwerp) and :nl:Tramlijn 7 (Antwerpen), Tram Route 7 (Antwerp). The current/present day route was opened on June 2, 2017 connecting the Astrid (Antwerp premetro station), Astrid Antwerp Pre-metro, Pre-metro station, Antwerp South and P+R Schoonselhof in Hoboken, Antwerp, Hoboken with Wijnegem. Trajectory Tram route 10 (since September 16, 2017) begins at Wijnegem Fortveld terminus. The Ghent tramway network ( nl, de Gentse tram) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Ghent, a city in the Flemish Region of Belgium, with a total of three lines (1, 2 and 4). Since 1991, the network has been operated by De Lijn, the public transport entity responsible for buses and trams in Flanders. As of the end of 2008, the network had 40 Siemens Mobility, HermeLijn trams and 43 PCC streetcar, PCC trams. General description The network covers approximately 30 kilometers . Deurne, Belgium
Deurne () is the second largest district of the municipality of Antwerp, Belgium, (right after the Antwerp town district) and has 80.781 inhabitants (2021). Deurne is best known for its green environment with the biggest park in Antwerp Rivierenhof. History Ancien régime Deurne was said to be the place where the Irish missionary Fredigand was abbot of Kerkelodor Abbey in the eighth century. There are indications that Deurne existed in prehistoric and Roman times but the first tangible proof of Deurne only dates back to 1185. Tram route 9 is a route in the Antwerp tram network connecting the Eksterlaar neighborhood in southern Deurne with Linkeroever using the Antwerp premetro network between Plantin and Van Eeden stations. The present day route was officially opened on September 1, 2012, as part of a revision of the network map. History Historic route (-1953) The first tram route 9 originally operated a route between the Van Schoonbekeplein, near the Eilandje neighborhood, and Antwerpen Berchem station, using a trajectory via Meirbrug, the Stadspark and Dageraadplaats. In 1953 however, tram tracks were broken up, and the route was replaced by bus route 9, following the same itinerary. Tram Route 6 (Antwerp)
Tram route 6 is a tram route in Antwerp between the Metropolis P+R in the northern Luchtbal suburb and the Olympiade P+R in the southern Kiel neighborhood, using the pre-metro network between stations Sport and Plantin. The route was officially opened on 27 October 2007 and is operated by the Flemish transport company De Lijn. Trajectory Tram route 6 begins at the Metropolis P+R next to the Metropolis cinema complex in the southern part of the Luchtbal suburb. The route then uses the Groenendaallaan and Delbekelaan, before arriving at the Gabriel Theunis bridge over the Albert canal. After crossing the canal, the route enters the pre-metro network, which it uses between Sport to the north and Plantin to the south.
