Borsbeek () is a municipality () located in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, and in the Flemish province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the town of Borsbeek proper. On 1 January 2021 Borsbeek had a total population of 11,076. The total area is 3.92 km² which gives a population density of 2.825 inhabitants per km². On 28 January 2022, the mayors of Borsbeek and Antwerp announced they intend to merge: the small, densely populated town of Borsbeek might become the 10th district of the city of Antwerp by 2025. History Borsbeek was first mentioned in 1232. In 1264, it becomes an independent parish. Until the 16th century, it was part of the County of Cantecroy. In the late 16th century, during the Dutch Revolt, Borsbeek was pillaged and destroyed several times. Mortsel () is a city and municipality close to the city of Antwerp located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the city of Mortsel proper. In 2021, Mortsel had a total population of 26,170 people. The total area is 7.78 km². Geography The city consists of the areas Mortsel-Dorp, Oude-God and Luithagen. Mortsel is bordered by Antwerp (districts Wilrijk, Berchem and Deurne), Borsbeek, Boechout, Hove, and Edegem. History Mortsel was the scene for one of the major collateral damage tragedies of World War II. The Arrondissement of Antwerp (; ) is one of the three administrative arrondissements in Antwerp Province, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement. The territory of the Judicial Arrondissement of Antwerp coincides with that of the Administrative Arrondissement of Antwerp. History The Arrondissement of Antwerp was created in 1800 as the first arrondissement in the Department of Deux-Nèthes (). The municipality comprises the towns of Boechout proper and . In 2021, Boechout had a total population of 13,526. The total area is 20.66 km². Boechout also hosts the Sfinks Festival. History Boechout is first mentioned in 974 as Villa Buocholt and a possession of the Saint Bavo's Abbey in Ghent. It used to be part of the Duchy of Brabant.
